Hey everyone,

I recently got into playing WoW, and my frame rate seems AWFUL slow.

Ultra - 18 fps average
High - 20-30 average
Good - 45 average
Fair - 126 average
Low - 175 average

*Note these were checked at idle*

Setup is as follows

Asus m5a88-m board
AMD FX-8120 (3.1GHz)
16GB Corsair DDR3
MSI R6670 (2GB DDR3)
60 GB SSD
and I believe the power supply is a corsair 450w...atleast...poss a 550
OS - Win 7 Ultimate x64

Gameplay - 97-99% GPU activity @ 52 Degrees C

Any ideas what might be holding me back? Thanks in advance.

a 6670 is a low end card plus you did not even mention what resolution that was at. and I hope you did not pay extra for a 2gb model as a 6670 is lucky to play games at settings that need more than just 512mb of vram.

1680 x 1050, sorry I'm human, I forget. You could have simply asked instead of putting me down. I understand that I dont have a great card, but the snippyness in your answer is extremely unnecessary.

Don't pay any attention

seems right.

Overclock your CPU to 4.2 and see some free boost

Thank you, I did set my cpu to run no less than 75% while I'm playing and it made a big difference as far as lagging and skipping. I OC'd the card a little bit also, but never crossed my mind to OC the cpu. I'll give it a shot.

But on the other hand, being on a pretty tight budget, if I were to upgrade would you suggest investing in a new card entirely, or picking up another 6670 and crossfire the two? I am kind of kicking myself for not investing in a high end card when I built the computer, but I wasn't planning on using it for gaming at the time. I also should have paid the extra 15 dollars to get the ddr5, oh well - lol.

I would buy a new card all together. Are you only playing WOW? Your CPU is more than capable of handling even the highest end graphics card without significant bottleneck. What's is your budget like? The HD7950 is a really sweet card for around 300 dollars USD. and would be an epic upgrade for you. If you are more set on 175-200 USD then you could look into a HD7850 which would double, most likely triple your FPS. Then fighting in the 100 dollar weight class is the 7770 which would give you good framerate, just not quite the ooomph of the 7850 or the longevity that 2gb of Vram brings. Nvidia has offerings that are similar from top to bottom being the 670= 7950 , 660 non to = 7850, gtx650= 7770. Sorry that Toyota was rude to you as a new guest, most everyone is pretty nice here, he must be having a bad day.

Also forgot to mention, the Anandtech Bench is very helpful when upgrading, you should check it out, just click Here.

Thanks again everyone for the quick replies, at the moment wow is all I am playing. I'm going to keep an eye out for any good holiday sales on the 7950, but at the moment the 7850 looks like it might be the best option for me money wise as I'd like to stay in or around the 200-250 dollar range.

nothing personal, just being blunt. your card is very low end yet you were acting surprised about it not performing better.

a 7850 will make you quite happy and also has plenty of overclocking room. even stock, its several times faster than what you have now.

He was legitimately surprised.

I would go with a 7850 and oc it

I agree a 7850 is the best choice. However, I think a 7770 would be adequate at 1680x1050 especially in games like WOW. I got a 7770 for 89.99 on sale at microcenter and it uses very little power. However, I must admit that since I upgraded my monitor to 1920x1080 I sort of wish I had gone for the 7850.

@frozentundra

well you can always sell the 7770 and upgrade, should be able to get your $90 back since it's nearly new. Wait for a 7850 sale?
