Okay, well I have had this board for nearly 2months now. I like to watch videos on my computer, and sometimes my computer would reboot on its own, while im in the middle of watching something. I tried to update to the latest AGP Gart(v4.05), and flashing to the newest bios, and no luck. I'm currently using Win98se and for playing the media, I am using Windows Media Player 7.0 and Realplayer 8.0. I'm using a Creative Labs Annihilator 2 Ultra AGP vid card, and running it on a stock 1.2Ghz t-bird. Does anyone have any clue to what is causing this?

Thanks

for me it was the Antec power supply 300w i got just for my new computer... :( the antec CSR told me it was the mobo, but i swapped in an old trusty 250w and its been flawless ever since... i sold the antec and the guy said its perfect...

What makes a power supply a bad power supply that it would cause this?

its not that its a bad one since it works perfectly for someone else... its just compatability... i think the pro2a needs all the required power... 5v and that 12v thing in bios, check what values it is... my 5v one was always lower than 5 and my 12v one hit 11 sometimes... with the 250w PS its always above those numbers...

Hi Hito, try this goto device manager and turn off "DMA Mode" for all your Hard Drives and CD Roms. Now watch your movies? Does it still randomly reboot? If it doesn't, welcome to the world of the MSI K7T-Pro2a. It's a common problem that neither MSI or VIA wants to admit exists.

Yeah, as Leebear said, it's a common problem on K7Tpro-2A motherboards, see this thread for example. But you don't have to disable DMA alltogether to fix the problem, installing VIA 3011 (beta) or later IDE drivers in miniport mode did the trick for my system.

Okay thanks. I will also try the DMA and miniport install. BTW, should I uninstall the ide drivers before installing the new ones? As I don't believe I installed them in miniport before.

Yeah I have the same problem with my 2a running movies often crashes the computer.. it sucks... it also won't stay overclocked... I am about to RMA it... I did not exactly understand the above post on power supply issues... are you saying there is somewhere in the bios where I can check if my board is not pulling enough power?

well I just disabled 4x agp, as many people have suggested... and it seems to at least have eliminated the habitual crashes I had experienced after playing just a few minutes of mpeg2 video.... I am now seeing how long I can loop a mpeg2 video to see if this fix really takes... will update you...

I wonder if I should uninstall the Via agp driver which I had installed in turbo mode... seeing as I disabled 4x agp I don't see the need for the turbo driver... if you are running win2k their is a microsoft patch for via's agp problems... FYI I am running a cheapo TNT2 Vanta 8mb card....

also I ran into this post somewhere =

"Go to the BIOS and change AGP routing to manual the change the value to BA. It worked for me on a MSI K7T Pro2A with 1Gb Athlon and a generic GeForce2 MX 32Mb. I found the info at www.geforcefaq.com "
