i had the pro2 running just fine and then i got the pro2-A (for a friend, maybe) so i formated my hard drive and swapped the motherbaords, it stil detects everything but now it says c drive doesn't exist, i checked jumpers on hard drive, and tried all those different configurations like pio, mode 4... blah.. so i can't install my cdrom drivers since there is no C DRIVE!!! AHHHHHH
help me...
computer configuration below...

why do i need to do that? i never had to do that, and i have clean installed a few times already... how would i fdisk anyways? a drive is the only one that i can access, copy fdisk from another computer? please help...

I had this same problem last night, I just built me new machine.
I got so mad at the computer for detecting the hard drive, but not booting from it.

After two hours, I went to sleep trying to find and answer. At 3AM, I had a revalation, maybe if I just switch the location of the dirve on the IDE cable, BANG, that worked. It now boots just fine.

Hope this helps.

i tried that, just to be sure, i used the cable with a blue end and a black end, i plugged that blue end into the MOBO... is this right?
its the cable with a little tag attached to the middle ide connection, i used that one at first then i switched to the black one... nothing

only have the drive itself connected to the cable..no other devices. and let the bios auto detect it. no auto lba..just auto

I have a mine set to auto auto. Mind you I only have my CDROM & LS120 on the onboard IDE controller. I am also running a Promise66 card that I boot from.

On a warm boot sometimes it doesn't even find my drives, but a cold boot always brings them back.

What do you have set for your three (plus other) boot options set to?

Yo you guys should check out this site Orange Delta. It was just set up by an anandtecher and he's slowly adding more. Right now he's got his advanced bios and chipset features up, with a small explanantion of each. It's worth a look. Not related to the hard drive problem, but it might help with some of the other questions people have about configuring it.

Unles you put your CD-ROM drivers on the disk after your formatted it with the /S option you will need a boot floppy. Course you could boot from your CD if you have a bootable version. Something else, you had the ATA100 IBM drive on the ATA66 controller on the PRO2, check for an IBM utility to change speeds for the 686B ATA100.
