MSI P7N SLI Platinum problem

So I built a new rig on this mobo (and yes I now see many people have complaints about MSI - I never had a reason to until now).. the problem is I have next to non-existent data transfer speeds - we're talking 70 minutes to install FEAR2..

I've ended up installing Windows XP 64bit as Windows 7 doesn't support GTX295 yet.. I've installed the latest drivers from MSI website and disabled the IDE controller.

Does anyone have some idea what might cause this?

If GTA4 installs in next hour (took good hour on first disc) I'll pull it open and see if cables are loose or something but Im out of ideas at this point.
