i went ahead and got the nforce board as well as the evercase. problem is, in the bios, the cpu temp is reading 60!!! (athlon 1700xp)way too high. another computer, (athlon 1.4 ghz, epox 8k7a) in the same room is registering around 45 which is fine with me. i checked the heatsink and fan which are both retail. they seem to be seated correctly. i even flashed the bios to see if it was something with that. the amazing thing is, it's reading 60 degrees with an open case....any suggestions or experiences are welcome. thanks.

edit: i know it has nothing to do with the heatsink/processor. i swapped my athlon 1.4 into the nforce board. again, the temp was high, almost 65 degrees. can i just blame this on a bad sensor? i doubt it has to do with airflow....the case is open!

bad sensor? no, its probably closer to die temp than the 8k7a... the Epox sensors aren't particularly accurate.

Different motherboards read temps differently. What is your ambient case temp? What heatsink?

heatsink is retail. case temp is 27-30.

the 1.4 athlon is reading 47 in the epox 8k7a and 65 in the nforce.

the xp1700 read 45 in the epox and about 62 in the nforce.

Very interesting. If that's the case, it can't be reading the temperature from the on-die thermistor on the CPU, since the 1.4GHz Tbird isn't equipped with one. Maybe they tried to add a compensation factor to get the reading closer to actual core temperature. Is the system stable when running at full load (SETI, gaming, etc)?

i haven't even installed an OS on the nforce xp1700 system. i was too concerned with these temps. the other epox 1.4 has been fine of course...running stable as ever.
