yeah, i fried the sucker =) i was going to start playing with the drivers when while i was using the computer, it just died. checked the PSU, checked the RAM, check the hard drive, next i am going to get the CPU. if everything else is good, it means the mobo is toast. oh well, fun while it lasted. need to pick up another uATX board then =)

I used my Bios Savior and did the K7N420 Pro BIOS v2.7. The system runs fine but still @ 800Mhz. :|

I changed the freq. in the BIOS but nothing. Anyone have a clue???

Well, instead of having to worry about tinkering with the IBM case, which I still have here, I got that nice big Antec case with 350W psu the other week at best buy. It looks kinda funny, little mobo with a huge SK-7 heatsink on it, but I wanted to try that out with it, and then have a quiet fan on there. Running the 1.2 low power athlon from compgeeks, 256 megs of PNY ddr, and a 60 gig Maxtor, XP booted in about 45 seconds flat, and that's with the mobo searching for a CD to boot from first, I haven't gotten around to changing that yet.

My mobo came with a driver cdr that the person who sold it to me on eBay made, it installed all the nvidia drivers, but in the 56k modem directory on the cd, when I tried to install that driver, it went fine, then asked for some file I didn't have anywhere, so I'm kinda stuck...did anyone find a place to get the driver? Conexant's site maybe? Not sure if that was the brand or not. Otherwise, this is a very good new pc for my family at home, since they'll be moving up from the k6-2 475 mhz machine my younger sister has managed to drive into the ground while I'm at college. Total price for this whole project is under $400 I'm sure, and this should do nicely. Maybe I'll find a mobo that will fit into the IBM case and I'll be able to take the 1.2 from that pc and try again...we'll see.

So other than having a problem with your mobile CPU, it works perfectly, even the modem?

Actually... no. I took my locked desktop XP 1800 and have been unsuccessful in getting windows to boot with 133FSB. 100FSB is fine -- kinda defeats the purpose though....

I know I haven't contributed to this thread for a while but I just wanted to report on my nForce/Netvista system. I am writing this on it right now.

Using the Netvista's 95watt power supply I am running a at a FSB of 133 so my Duron 650 is running at roughly 865mhz. I am using two 128meg sticks of PC2100 and I set the memory timings at 2. The built in Geforce2 MX video is surprisingly respectable in this sytem. Serious Sam SE is running at 800x600 with all the video setttings max (that was the defaults it set itself to) and this is pulling a constant 35fps. I haven't been able to try Warcraft 3 yet but that will definately be one of the machines jobs. I also have a 40gig 7200rpm Maxtor HD and a Teac CD-Rom. Using a stock AMD heatsink and a 80mm fan in place of the speaker in the Netvista for some air flow.

I had to do some serious mod work to make everything fit. The motherboard isn't even screwed down. I do have it securely held in though through various means like a few nicely hidden wire ties, one of the slot covers bent in with a rubber pad holding the board in place, and a plastic washer holding down the board where the power supply screws in.

Thanks for all the great pictures of your system Yodayoda, it showed me what I had to do to make it all fit. I was able to fit a CD-Rom in mine by letting it angle up over the memory and making a nice standoff so it won't touch the ram. You can't even tell that it is at a roughly 35degree angle by looking at the front of the drive.

Overall I am very impressed with the system. Most impressed by the fact that this little 95watt power supplly is basicaly running a system that generic 250/300watt power supply's can't swing. The front USB ports work just fine also per the instructions a few pages back on removing the white socket block and just sticking the header on. I don't remember who that was but Thanks!!!

It's almost kind of sad that my fiance's computer (this one) has faster ram than my own personal rig. I am running PC150 in that and I seem to do ok but I've got a KT400 in my sights.

Wow, i thought this thread died a while ago, anyway a few (at least one) thing to report: I tried one of these boards with a thoroughbred 1700+ from newegg and it is working fine.

There is no multiplier adjustment with the bios that comes with this board, but you might be getting the 6X multiplier because the lower multiplier settings are used to define the higher multiplier settings in the new processors, I think there is way to mod the processor to get the right multipliers by connecting a couple pins but I dont know enough about it to elaborate. These boards do run extremely well, if any1 has a direct link to the modem drivers I would appreciate it :), hope this helps a little

Glad to hear people are having success. I however, had a very unfortunate accident. After I had my system all set up, I wanted to check on the temps. So I stood it upright, closed the case, and ran a divx movie. Everything was fine until the white tab for the heatsink broke off. The hsf fell off, and I think the cpu is fried. I don't have any other amd boards to test, but I believe that's the case. The system wouldn't post after that...Oh well

Any ideas on how to replace the white socket holder thing? Could it be a dead mb and not cpu?

almost certainly the cpu. I've seen people mount heatsinks to the motherboard and not the white cpu socket, check over at overclockers.com maybe.

I'm almost done with mine, just need to get the remaining parts and install them now. I made mine fit by turning the power supply around and cutting a hole in the case to fit the fan. I'll be placing a fan guard over it as soon as I get it. My borad and PS are pretty much goinf to be held down by electrical tape. Here are the final specs on my system:

1.2GHz SFF Athlon
2 128MB Crucial RAM sticks
40GB 5400RPM Maxtor HDD
Samsung DVD/CD-RW
a Thermaltake 1U HSF
a 60mm Panaflo low speed fan

In the future I may replace the fan on the heatsink with something quieter and possiably add a PCMCIA LP PCI card. So what do you guys think?

Just a bump- I've been running mine as a "Suitcase System" for over a month. Still very fast (with a 1800,BTW), and 0 problems. Haven't tried to use the TV out, or anything like that, though

Guys, saw this link to a different vendor selling this board on e&ay. They say:
"You are bidding on a new MSI nForce 420D (MS-6353) Athlon/Duron Flex ATX Motherboard.  The dimensions of this board are approximately 10.1? (edge with CPU socket to edge with PCI slot) x 8.3? (deep).  The BIOS may also be flashed to support up to Athlon XP 2600+ CPUs, but you?ll need a CPU that the BIOS currently supports (1.2GHz Athlon or 950MHz Duron) to re-flash the motherboard with the BIOS update.  Email us for the location of the BIOS update (MSI nForce motherboard MS-6373). "

EDIT: Duh, just realized that the 6373 is the k7n420. Oh well.

I'm using my 6353 as a Media Center Edition and it works awesome. 512megs of pc2100 (but the SiSoft Sandra 2300 memory bandwidth scores are still not very good) a the low power 1.2ghz Athlon, Thermalright SK6+ with a Panaflo 80mm fan, and the Hauppauge PVR250 TV card, and SnapStream Remote.

Works just fine.
