Holy sh!t - that is unbelievable!

Btw, I'm all but certain that second PCI-e slot he used was a PCI-e 4X slot, not 1X or 2X like users in that thread speculated.

That was incredible that he got SLI to work on those 6800's, and I'm absolutely baffled the 6600GT's worked since they don't have an external power connector - how the heck did it get enough power off that PCI-e 2X or 4X slot!?!?

Also, as someone said in that thread, how does one even go thinking about sticking a PCI-e 8X/16X card into a 4X slot!? Let alone the fact that it worked, and even worked in SLI!

Interesting makeshift SLI setup, although if I was going to run SLI, I would definately opt for the SLI board with dual 16X slots (that, yes, default to 8X when in SLI mode due to the number of lanes).

The MSI 7125 (K8N Neo4) reviewed at tbreak only has 1x slots in addition to the 16x but the slot he was using was definately not 1x. tbreak pic

Is MSI producing two versions of the board or did they scrap the 4x slot so SLI couldn't be run without an SLI board?

I think there's two versions of the SLI board. One for the US and one for everyone else (or something like that) but I never heard of more than one version of the Ultra's. It seems possible though.

The t-break review uses an outdated :) board.

MSI has updated the pictures of the K8N Neo4 Platinum on their website:

I guess they're making a lower priced SLI board. I wonder when I could buy one for a reasonable price. (<$200 US)

What do you mean? The board with the PCIe x2 slot is not a SLI board, it will not ship with the SLI connector and you'll have a hard time getting anything more power hungry than the 6600GT working on the x2 slot.

Chinese,

Go back and read the thread. The original cards tested were 6800 Ultra's!!! He popped in the the 6600GT's later. Also, the power supply for the PCIe slot is the first set of pins right before the divider. The rest of the pins after the divider are for signalling. So it's getting the proper power.:)

PCIe provides all power through the first 11 pins, which all slots x1...x16 share.
