Hey Reality Time what did MSI say when you called to RMA it? I will tell you; how do I tell which ethernet port went bad?
Nope I did overclock for a few days about 2 months ago so that didnt cause the problem. I was getting dissconnected from the internet every few days for about a month and couldnt figure why but now I suspect it was the ethernet port going bad.

My nForce ethernet is dead too. I use the Realtek.
If the cable modem has its single IP address reserved for a different NIC (which it can recognize by its MAC address), then that would be perfectly normal. As I said in my first post in this thread... yeah.Originally posted by: RealityTime

rofl. well done msi. tell me, does your windows still recognize the port and if you hook it up to a cable modem or some such thing it does recognize as cable connected, BUT the port still doesn't work ? As that is what mine is like. rofl. msi you wh0res.

Hmm mine's a bit more simple. I just don't get any connection through the port. Windows still recognizes it, and I have updated the drivers, but it just doesn't work.
If the port is set to acquire an IP using DHCP, then ipconfig /all will give a result whether it is plugged in or not. Example: my IPCONFIG /ALLOriginally posted by: Mrvile
Well when I try to repair my IP on it, it just gets an error. Nothing is plugged into it right now so ipconfig /all doesn't do anythign.

And you're positive the nVidia hardware firewall is down? I found out how brutally effective the nVidia firewall is, when I tried joining my K8N-E Deluxe system to our domain at workNo dice, had to open ports first.
Like I said, hardware failures can happen... but my work fleet has 36 nVidia-based NICs and I've never had one fail yet, after >2 years on some of those. Then again, they're not MSI boards either...![]()
Ok, and if you give the nVidia NIC a cable to your router, what do you get for an IP address? Is it something that corresponds to your router's usual IP scheme (192.168.1.101 or such)? If not, do an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, did that get it on its feet?Originally posted by: Mrvile
I get something completely different. It gives me the ip of my wireless network (it should), but for both the Realtek and the nVidia (nothing is plugged into any of them) it says:
Media state . . . . . : Media disconnected
Descriptions . . . . .: Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit
Ethernet NIC
Physical Address . .:xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
