I bought this card when it was the MS8815Pro. ($194 +$4) I used my AMEX "Blue" card, and now can't find a MS8815Pro to price match for a refund. Anyone get AMEX to give them a refund for the MS8815Pro with the replacement MS8831Pro (same card)? Hope the "linky" works, I'm still learning how.

Edit: Link try #2

TimidOCer, depends on your CPU speed, if you got the Mhz for it, you can get the 8831Pro, and overclock it to Ultra speed. I bought this card when everyone was saying the GeForce 3's were going to be $400 or more, now I may keep my Leadtek GeForce2 Pro 32mb in the computer and just jump to a 3 when prices drop.

Flatbroke, I've got the ghz to run it, but don't know how to hack it to the Ultra. Would you say this is the sweet spot in video cards? I have a voodoo3 now, and am ok with it, but you know, my hands shake when I see these deals..... :D

re amex blue-- check out this link which lists googlegear as the lowest price for the ms8815 @~ 143 . good luck with amex. I've always gotten a price match i 've requested from them.
cheap ms8815 no Pro though if that matters.

I am having a hard time trying to decide which card I want for my new system. Should I get the ATI All In Wonder Radeon or the MSI MS8831Pro w/64MB 5ns ram? Is this MSI card a true GeForce 2 Pro? The price looks too good to be true.

Anyone know when we're gonna see Radeon2 hit shelves ? I'm wondering if it might be worth the wait. Woulda jumped on this a few weeks ago, but since we've all seen what a joke Nvidia's pricing scheme is (they can knock 150 off teh geforce3 debut cause it was at least 150 overpriced=profit for them), I'm thinking Radeon2 might debut kinda cheap.

Stingygrrl, I think the MS8831 would be a good upgrade from a V3. It is a true Pro, for those who asked,(no, I don't have one in my hands but check this, bottom of the page) Link
I have heard good reports on this Nvidia overclock/adjustment program, NVMax 2.093 at NVMax (webpage loads slow for me) To who asked how to make a link I guess you hit the Http (with a chain) at the top of the "reply" page and type or copy and paste the link addy in the box that shows up. You'll see another box show up, and type in your name for the link. I have done this 5 times now, so you didn't hear this from an expert.

Edit: type in "the" name for the link, not "your" name. Thanks for the info on the AMEX Blue Stingygrrl, but AMEX wont PM a Pro card with a non-Pro card. Still looking for cheap online price of MS8815Pro card to PM, anyone who I helped with link instructions help me?

>who asked,(no, I don't have one in my hands but check this, bottom of the page

The only thing at the bottom is a note that the 831 replaces the 815. A quick check of the 815Pro specs yields: "5.3GB/sec Memory Bandwidth". <--- That's not 5ns mem.

It's a true GeForce2 Pro with 64mb of 5ns memory. I got one from cdrexpress.com last week, default clock at 200/400. Awesome card!

Flatbroke, I would have PM'd you but you have to go into your profile and enable it. Anyway, the best price i could find was at www.mwave.com ~ 182 for the pro.

You could also point out to AMex that this page clearly states that the 8815Pro was discontinued and replaced by the MS8831, and ask for leniency, and a PM to the 8831. And if rejected, then file a claim for $11.

I'd talk to Amex about the situation and see what's teh best approach. I think they'd work with you.

Stingygrrl, my PM has been on for some time now, don't know why it didn't work. Damn, I have my Anandtech password memorized, that's the first sign, making Anandtech my homepage would be the second, and the third is knowing the the first name of the UPS and Fedex delivery persons. [puts hand to forehead to check temp]...I may have the "Blue" flu! :p I will call them in the morning and point out the obvious to them. $194-$145=$49.... ohhh just what the doctor ordered. :D

The radeon 2 is scheduled to hit the shelves late this year in the fall/winter. According to ATI, it should be able to blow the Geforce 3 out of the water. I wonder if they realize that the Geforce 3 will be replaced by the NV25 by then. That should be the equivalent of a GeForce 3 Ultra, unless NVIDIA decides to radically redesign it...

Blah, you believe ATI's marketing hype? The initial Radeon 2 won't be any challenge for the current GeForce3 architecture. And by the time Radeon 2 "arrives", NV25+ will be screaming.

The 8831Pro is a good deal at around $155 shipped. Stay away from the "semi-Pro" cards which use slower 5.5 or 6ns RAM and are clocked at 333/366 instead of 400, which all PRO cards should be.

Damn, Newegg is sold out at the moment. I just ordered my Iwill KK266 and DVD Rom from them and 512 megs of ram from Crucial. Need a nice (not to expensive) video card to complete the system.

V00DOO: It didn't o/c for you that well? Mine hits 230/460, did yours do worse than that?

I'm thinking of adding some mem h/s's and a blorb from 2cooltek, but i'm not sure if it would make that much of a difference. Anyone think I could squeeze a bit more out of this?

Anybody got a link to a picture of this card? Tried MSI's site, but it's not ther - What up with that???
I'm asking because I have an older IBM desktop case - if this thing comes with those two foot heat sinks, it ain't gonna fit.

Thanks

-for anyone still trying to get it, CDRexpress is out of stock again and doesn't expect any more in before mid to late next week. Don't know if/when Newegg expects them

I just measured the 8815 and it is 6 1/2 inches long. There is a small pancake fan on the chip, and nothing sticks up higher than the metal mounting bracket. Memorymedia.com -$141 plus shipping, is out of them too.
