OK, I'm at the end of my rope here. I'll try to list all I've done, but Im' sure I'll miss some of it.
MSI KT4 Ultra-FISR
AMD 1600+
Crucial RAM
WD harddrives
Lite-on CD-RW and DVD-ROM
PCI Grahpics card (Matrox)
400W AMD Certified power supply.
Problem:
Installing Win2K or WinXP on the machine on a WD 30 gig drive. (brand new install, not and upgrade) During the copy files process it will say "error copying file XXXX.XXX If you are installing from a cd-rom, your disc may be damaged. " I can then skip, or try again. If I skip, another file does the same thing, and eventually I get the BSD. This is all in the setup process.
I've tried installing both 2K, and XP, from the CD-RW and DVD-ROM.
I booted with an 98 disc, formated the drive, copied the i386 over to it manualy, and ran the setup from there, same error. The DOS Xcopy works fine though.
Updated the BIOS to the most current version.
I've toggled about every BIOS option I can, from caching, to none, shadowing, to none.
I've tried it with the HD on the Serial ATA with adapter, the promise Raid controller with a 80pin cable, and the standard ata-133 controller with an 80 pin cable. I've tried 2 different sets of cables. I also tried a different WD 30 gig drive.
I tried 3 different sticks of RAM, all Cruical PC2100 256MB sticks. I tried having all 3 in, 2 in, or 1.
The CPU is an AMD 1600+ Not over clocked, and running very cool.
Only thing in the PC is the PCI Video Card.
It will not even power ON with a AGP card in the slot.
Thats most of it I think. Now, I say the board is bad:
1. Won't power on with AGP card installed
2. All the data transfer issues happen no matter which controller I use.
I'm really at the end of my wits here, any help is appreciated.
