Uh oh.... looking at my fed ex tracking I dont think the board is going to make it in time for the weekend...

Knew I should have done 2 day air

Simply put...Joe.....is...THE MAN!

who is the man? JOE!

the only mistakes made were me not ordering the mobo from monarch and getting it built by them

My Athlon 64 3500 Retail shipping tonight from my Monarchcomputer order & upgraded to 2 day shipping from ground. Looks like I ordered early enough to get one. Thanks Joe!

I did the waiting game with monarch and they didn't test the combo like they were suppossed to.. They only see if the fan starts. Mwave\zipzoomfly and newegg had these boards 30 to $40 cheaper at beginning of week. Something to look into.

Combos are pre-tested with ram and the latest release bios installed. If there was an issue and it wasn't completely tested, please contact our tech department and they can help you out.

New update:

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum is now readily in-stock. There is no shortage on it at all.

Additionally, 3500+ OEM cpus have come in and are readily available. It is just the bare chip, no heatsink/fan, and carries a 60 day Monarch warranty.

I pre-ordered one of these boards in a custom system at Monarch back on July 26th. I was one of the people who initially called in and requested it specifically and they ended up putting it on the configurator for me. 🙂

In any case, my order has been in burn-in mode for over 6 days now. A couple of days ago I called in to find out what was up and spoke to David. He was very friendly, but unfortunately wasn't supplying me with detailed technical info about what was going wrong, exactly. He just said that they were having issues getting the OS loaded on my system in order to do the burn-in, and to call back in two days. Called back today and found out that the OS has still not yet been installed on my machine and they have been experiencing "issues" with these motherboards in general.

Because I pre-ordered my motherboard, I paid a premium over the current going price of $148.00 with the understanding that I would be one of the first to receive my motherboard (and accompanying system, of course). Normally I build my own boxes, but for a $49.00 build fee it just wasn't worth the hassle to me at this point. However, now I'm beginning to wonder if I made a mistake.

Joe, could you elaborate on what kind of "issues" you guys are seeing with my system? I can provide you with my order number. I'm no stranger to new tech, and I know there are often glitches to work out, but I expected that with the delays before this motherboard hit the market, they were ironed out at the manufacturer this time around. I don't want to switch motherboards, the favorable reviews this mobo has consistently gotten are what convinced me to pre-order a machine and wait for this mobo specifically.

I had been hoping to have this box here before the weekend -- seems like I'm out of luck at this point.

Wow... OK, I just received a call from David telling me they resolved the issue. They went through two faulty motherboards and were thinking it may be an incompatability with something else in my configuration, but the third one worked. So, either Joe worked really fast to see that this got resolved, or I got lucky. In any case, I'm told it should ship out tonight if it passes QC in time. I'm excited. 🙂

Hey Neo, could you do me a favor and post your machine's specs? I too have the Neo2 mobo, and I've been having one heck of a time trying to get this thing up and running... If I can actually get the OS installed, it ends up crapping out not long after when I try to install drivers. I had resigned myself to the fact that my old XP version and my inability to download XP updates were causing the problems, but after hearing your problems I'm having second thoughts.

Here's what I've got...just whish I could use it 😎

Neo2 Platinum
FX-53
Seagate 120 SATA
Corsair 3200XL Pro
eVGA 6800 Ultra
Audigy 2 ZS
Plextor 712A

Thanks,
Loren

Oh, and Joe, could you guys over at Monarch shed a little light on just what types of problems you were having while trying to setup the Neo2? Would be nice to know if im up against a bad MOBO and not just software probs.

Oh man, i've got the exact same problem. Please update me on any progress made.

I am currently running solid as a rock using kindston value ram cas3 3200 512 sticks x2. Still installing a lot of different software but I have already downloaded and installed Windowx XP Pro service pack 2 and installed all my hardware without any problems worth mentioning here. BFG 6800 GT OC, Seagate 200GB SATA X2. I have the Audigy 2 platinum but have not installed it. Going to use the onboard audio and find out if I am happy with it over the next month then keep and install or sell the audigy. The audigy card could be the problem? Not using RAID either, NTFS on the first HD and Fat32 on the second one. Oh and forgot to mention my PS is Antec true power 550w. I hope you guys solve your problems. I know after waiting as long as I did for upgrading and then waiting for hardware that is hard to get due to lack of supply I would be pissed if it didnt work. I have been nervous about having problems myself.

1 finally got all my stuff and put it together, and after about an hour my fdc died....looks like el swappo rio for me. not to mentoin the thermaltake case its in. took me longer to do the case right than to build the system...........anybody else have this problem? ...suggestions?

also ,my drive letters are all screwed up

k8n neo2 platinum
3500 athlon 64
9800 pro all in wonder
120 gb sata s/g barracudas x2
512 giel value ram x2
thermaltake xaser v tower

fdc is what? Floppy disk controller? Thats odd never had that problem. Seems like if you know that acronym which I had to look up lol you should know how to reletter your hd's, under computer management. So, far so good for me but I had one problem that set me back a whole day. Norton Ghost 2003 wouldnt recognize my HD's using a floppy and I also tried 7.5 corporate edition and it wouldnt work either so I tried to do it from windows ended up having an error and having to reinstall all my work all over again. After reinstalling windows xp only I tried ghost again and it now works recognizing the hd's and I have no clue why (using boot disk not windows). Now I am backing up with ghost with my fingers crossed and doing it after few changes and upgrades.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time making sure my wiring was right with my case and mobo etc. The only thing that is wrong is that my HD LED doesnt blink it just stays solid so either I have to reverse the wires or that is the way they are now (I am used to the light blinking showing the HD is being used working).

Due to low availability you could replace your motherboard directly from MSI faster than monarch unless they got more back in stock.

Well, as far as availability we have an absolute ton of these motherboards on hand now.

As far as Ghost goes, its occasionally flakey with SATA drives, maybe that's the issue you're having.

With the light not working correctly, I've found that usually turning the wires around usually fixes that problem. You'd think with all of the advancements, they'd come up with a better way to handle flashing leds...

I found a lot of good info here. It seems that a lot of people are having trouble with the Corsair (Samsung chip) memory and this board.

I'm using the K8N Neo2 with an AMD 3500+ and Corsair 3200XL @ 2-2-2-5 1T (stock speed and MHz timing... for now 😉 ) without any issues. I feel like I deserved that after spending 20+ hours and several hundred $$$ trying to get another system to work, which turned out to be a Intel 3.2C CPU that went bad after 6 months of use.

The MSI board was a little finicky at first- had to figure out to put the DIMMs in slots 1 & 2 (not 1 & 3) to get DDR400. If you put them in 1 & 3 and then change the MHz from 166 to 200 in the BIOS then the system won't start (need CMOS reset).

For the record, my boot drive is a WD Raptor 74, vid is a BFG 6800 Ultra, and I have an Audigy 2 ZS.

I installed XP (32-bit) clean, then the nVidia chipset drivers, then XP SP2, then sound drivers, then video drivers.

Later for fun I installed XP 64-bit build 1218 on another partition (added a Seagate 160 SATA drive; disabled any RAID functionality in the BIOS). From there I installed the 64-bit version of the nVidia chipset drivers, the 64-bit versions of the Audigy drivers, and the 64-bit version of the nVidia video drivers. No issues yet other than the well-known Media Player crash when playing videos (works only with acceleration turned way down).

My Sandra memory bandwidth comes in just over 5900 (as expected).

That would be because if you read the mobo manual, you'd see that 1&3 are the same channel (heck even look at the color) and running two memory modules on the same channel puts more stress on the memory controller forcing you to run at 2T to maintain the same timings. Its not the board being finicky

I got tired of waiting for my Neo2 and grabbed Asus A8V rev. 1.02 (yups, not even 2.0).

The board is what i expected. Not much for overclockers. I am hoping that in the coming months the nForce4 will arive and then I'll jump to that one. If the nForce4 will be delayed, then for sure i will switch to nForce3 board.
