MSI K8N Neo2 and Dual Channel

I was reading on other forums of people putting sticks of RAM in DIMM banks 1 & 3 and thinking that this is Dual Configuration...according to the MSI K8N Neo2 manual: Dual channel works in ONLY 3 configurations. 2 sticks of RAM in either: DIMM 1 and DIMM2 or DIMM 3 and DIMM 4 or 4 sticks in all 4 DIMMs.

Correct me if I'm wrong,and hopefully this won't sound too silly but want to be sure and double check: To have Dual Channel RAM configuration each RAM stick should be installed on different channels no? IE. assuming I have 2 sticks of 512MB RAM where:


DIMM1 bank is coded Green
DIMM2 bank is coded Purple
DIMM3 bank is coded Green
DIMM4 bank is coded Purple

Dual Configuration will therefore have 1 stick on Green and the other on Purple -- yes?

dual channel = stick of ram in both channels.

so yes, one in green and one in purple or all 4 banks full.

no i have the msi k8n neo2 to run dual channel you got to use dimm 1 and dimm 2 i did the same thing as you i used dimm 1 and dimm 3 but that didnt work for me in dual channel

right. okaaaaay, let's try this again. dimm 1 and dimm 3 are the same channel. they are also the same color. so, again,

dual channel = stick of ram in both channels.

so yes, one in green and one in purple or all 4 banks full.
