Hello all,
Yesterday I upgraded my old system to a 754 setup with the MSI K8N Neo Platinum motherboard. I was able to boot into my old install of XP and install everything, but I was getting frequent errors+shutdowns. I went to do a clean install, and was still receiving errors. I had also introducted a new stick of cheapo memory, which I removed and no longer received install errors.
I was able to install a new install of XP, but when I install all the nforce drivers, the ethernet device does not appear in device manager. It tells me that I can install SP1 for USB2.0, I have a feeling it is hinting that I need that to run the ethernet...
It would not show up on 2k either.

Thanks in advance~

Bonus questions:
1. If I want to get into folders that had permissions on them on my old install, is it fairly easy to just take ownership of them on 2k? I think I will go with 2k since it seems to be a little more stable. I am 95% sure the files are not encrypted.

2. I see compusa has 512 3500 PNY memory for teh cheap this week. Is this a good brand of memory? I have 256 3200 corsair (a little pricey) and 512 giel (pretty nice) at the moment.

Thanks~

Edit: I am going to get a new hard drive from compusa as well, I have a timeline photo album of my kittens under a Documents & Settings folder from my old install, therefor, reformatting is not an option.

EDIT- Apparently fail-safe bios defaults don't include the ethernet. I can't believe I overlooked this.

I am having the same problem.

If anyone has the fix for this please post otherwise i'll be sending my mobo back and getting a replacement :/

The Ethernet drivers just don't want to install, therefore I can't use the gigabit lan on the MSI K8N Neo Platinum :(

Ahh resolved the problem Penguin, god mobo's are so weird.

You just need to tamper with the BIOS, like disable the onboard sound if you don't use it, configure it, then once you have rebooted it'll say Verifying DMI Pool Data.... Successful.

Now when you have logged into Windows it should now recognise a few more things on your mobo such as the Ethernet :)

It worked for me, hopefully it'll work for you.

My specs are:

MSI K8N Neo Platinum
AMD Athlon 3700+
Radeon X800 Pro
Corsair 1024MB DDR 533mhz
Hitachi SATA 160GB 7200RPM
560W PSU Silent Purepower
Soundblaster Audigy ZS 2
