I have a MSI K7Tpro2, with a duron 750. Cpu prices are falling hard these days, and I'm interested in a CPU, like an Athlon 1GHZ, or 1,2GHz. For my next board upgrade I will take a FSB266 compliant board, with the same processor. Can I force a FSB of 200MHz to a FSB 266 cpu??????????????
Thanks for any help or opinion.

If your Mothboard only takes 200mhz FSB CPUs ... if you chuck a 1 Gig Athlon - C with a 266 FSB on that board it will show up as a 750Mhz Athlon ... and you may not be able to ever get it to go to 1Ghz unless maybe you then play around with the setting to overclock it back up to 1Ghz ... but doing that is bad because it makes the CPU generate more heat then if it was working at its default set speed !

To fix ... you can check the motherboards manufacturer web site for a Bios Update to see if that board supports 266 FSB CPU's with a bios update ... or if you can still find a 1Ghz Athlon - B with a 200 FSB Processor that would work fine on any board

This board overclock well, it can setup the multiplier of a cpu which has L1 bridges closed. Why would the cpu do more heat at 10*100 than at 7,5*133, I don't see why. Explain, please! The heat is not a problem.

your better off getting an Athlon - B thats at 200FSB but if you hafta get a C with 266 and overclock it back up to the normal speed ... make sure to grab a new Heat Sink + Fan and remember the BIGGER THE thing is the better ... dont let those idiots at the computer stor try selling you a Spear or some copper thing if the heat sink is small then it no good !

+ stay away from noisy fans they get annoying over time lol trust

By the way if you get a B 200FSB CPU you could then overclock that past the original speed !
just an idea !

I already have an Alpha PAL6035MUC, plus a 25cfm case fan, and now and forever I won't buy any sphere!

The problem is that I'm doing video editing with pinnacle studio DV7, and it takes so long to encode a video..... I need a faster cpu.

ok well if your looking for a faster CPU just go out and get a ESC K7S5A ( SIS 735 Chipset ) with Athlon XP 1600+
the CPU isnt that much and the ESC board is really cheap ! if you dont have the money then i guess forget it

I don't have the 1.2/266 on my MSI K7TPro2-A but I do have one on my Asus A7V (not 133). Its been running 107x12.5 for a couple months now with no problems. I would think the MSI should work the same. I'd have to go check the bios, but there should be a 12 or 12.5x multiplier available.
My temps on the asus run about 43-47c using a Taisol copper insert hs and the quieter fan.

Thank you very much racer! The k7tpro2 has the 12X multiplier, so I will do that overclock (or underclock: how can I tell it?). Thank you for your help. If anybody has an other opinion...
