Thanks Jimbo,

I kinda figured that out later on after having read all of the threads here, but how the hell are we supposed to get a 1GHz+ kicked off on the Turbo with FSB 133. It seems like other people are having the same problem - no matter how low you set the multiplier the CPU would boot at 10x, 11x, etc. I guess what it takes is a proper BIOS before people start trashing their new Turbos. I am also very, very unimpressed with my particular board's overclocking capabilities at FSB100. Whay worse that my Pro2 and I consider change for A7V133, here it has soft menu at last:)

UPDATE:

I asked MSI about the Turbo-R bios, it is the same for Turbo w/o RAID.
And the issue about the unknown flash type is due to BIOS ver. 2.4 & the B16 is
different in terms of the code built-in
You can try to clear the CMOS using the JBAT jumper or You can just
ignore it

Doesn't do the trick, you can't just ignore as it doesn't actually proceed with the flashing...

If you have a Turbo-R is thier actually any advantage to using the new BIOS? The threads here are confusing/contridicting on the subject of the new BIOS.

Hi yodel,

I have the same problem (almost) with you (using the V2.4 and V1.0b16). I did some experiment again and found the ?multiplier bug? like you did. I can do 7.5x133 with my Duron 600 (w/ KT7A), and from what I got by changing the multiplier I get these results:
6x133=800 (6x133) ok
6.5x133=866 (6.5x133) ok
7x133= fail
7.5x133= fail
8x133= fail
8.5x133= fail
9x133=665 (5x133) ok
9.5x133=731.5 (5.5x133) ok
10x133=800 (6x133) ok
10.5x133=866 (6.5x133) ok
11x until 12.5x=fail

fail=no post/hang
ok=load windows and stable

Weird huh? I already contacted MSI about this and I?ll let you know. Btw, do you have the voltage problem too? On my Turbo-R if I set the voltage to 1.525V, I?ll get 1.65V. Set it to 1.6V, I?ll get 1.725V and so on.

RoCo: use this switches to flash A:\AWFL789 W6330VSP.10g /NBL /SN /PY /CC /R /LD

Tired of the Bull: I got another 2o points for my memory benchmark

Yes! keep us posted please martin00! I'm having the same problem with my K7T-Turbo and a 1Ghz proc. I'm very curious what MSI has to say about this......

Same problems here. :( BTW where's the fsucking jumper to set the 133 MHz FSB I'm either blind or it isn't there on newer revisions of this board. :confused:

Newer revision? What revision do you have Nickdakick? The jumper should be nnear the CMOS battery.

:( I flashed my bios with /nbl switch only and now I can run 6x and 6,5x @ FSB133-146. If I try anything above 6.5X I can't even boot. Tried the multipliers @ FSB100MHz just for check and to my surprise I get:
10x for 7x
10.5x for 7,5x and so on...

Practically, none of the multipliers between 7 and 10 are usable, at least not with this BIOS. Tried penciling L6 for a test and I got 4 red lights from LED meaning CPU not recognised...

I guess I would go for a replacement with A7V133 if MSI does not release a new BIOS by the end of the week to hopefully solve that problem. Please keep the thread alive!

Take care!

:|To Martin00

And yes, I do have the voltage discrepancy (+0.1 V) but I don't mind this as I need higher voltages anyway... However, my temp. readings now are 20-25 C !!! higher than what I used to get on MSI Pro2, which also confuses me. I saw 78C @ 1,2 GHz with Hot CPU test and stopped the PC to avoid problems if this reading was correct. What I can admit though is that my 1G Tbird is now able to do 1,2 G where as before 1,5 was max, so after all it may be a good board for ppl with 'C' Tbirds.

Bump! BTW I find the Turbo to be an extremely stable board at FSB 100. My 1 GHz Tbird before on 1.825V @ 1,15GHz is now at default voltage 1,2GHz. I really hope MSI would release a new BIOS, please mail their support as I did.

Thanks!

Well, at least I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with the multiplier problem. I thought it might have been a bad job on the L1 bridges, but I did them with a conductive pen and other mulitpliers work perfectly. Maybe MSI needs to test its bios's a little further (even though they are beta.) Either that or AMD purposely told them not to allow people to use those multipliers so they could sell their 266fsb chips. I don't know. Anyway, I'm gonna email MSI about the problem too. Maybe the more emails they get from different people, the more likely they will be to fix it and release an updated bios.....

<bump>

compuwiz, you been able to adjust the multipliers of the big Birds?

I'm looking to grab one of your 1.2's and hit 9*133+

keep me informed. It's worth it to ya. ;)

I emailed MSI and told them about the problem I was having with their "Overclockers BIOS" and the multiplier problem. Their response:
"There are no gaurantee in overclocking. We don't usually recommend overclocking."

My response:
"I wasn't complaining about the overclocking just pointing out you had a
problem with the BIOS release. Since so many people have pointed out
that the same problem exists I thought MSI might be a bit more
responsive rather than the standard cheapo company line "It's not our
problem". If I wanted that crap I'd buy from a no name board where I
expect a response like that.. At least you responded, I thank you for
that."

They didn't even reply to me yet. I would have returned already the mobo if I did not find it amazingly stable, does 1 @ 1,2GHz at default voltage, although temp. reading are way higher (15-20C) than what I had before on Pro2 with 1,5 GHz max at 1,825 V. Keep MSI posted, I decided to take a chance and keep the mobo as I believe a bios update should be able to fix the problem!

UPDATE:

Well?.I think I?m gonna return this board and exchange it to KT7A (which I really don?t want to) ?cause I know my Duron 600 can do 10x103 and 7.5x133 on KT7A where Turbo-R couldn?t. They blame on the CPU cause the highest ratio for this particular CPU is 6.

Here is the quote:
After some investigating, the answer I got that this is the problem of the CPU itself. This is because the highest ratio table built for the AMD Duron 600 CPU is "6"
You can see your own test result as below, problem happen when you are trying to use ratio above "6"

That?s suck, I know and sure this is a BIOS problem/mobo problem cause I?m not the only one who use this board. If you look at the reviews, they say they?re having some problem involving the multiplier and the FSB.

martin: That sounds like a BS answer from MSI. I am having the same problems with my board. So even if the highest multiplier available for your Duron 600 is 6x, what about my T-bird 1000 whose default multiplier is 10x? Now they're starting to piss me off. I don't think that the 7x or 8x multipliers work with this bios for ANYONE regardless of your CPU. Why can't they just admit there's a problem and fix it? It just figures that the multipliers that I need (7x and 8x) are the ones that don't work!! I would just change the default multiplier from 10x to 8x via the L6 bridges, but I epoxyed my CPU to the heatsink so I can't get at it anymore. :( (Stupid, I know!) Oh, BTW my other name is Yodel.

traVinator, what were you thinking? Why the hell would you epoxy your heatsink on to the processor?

Well, I had some arctic silver thermal epoxy and I figured I might as well use it. I already had the L1 bridges connected, and I have a nice, big heatsink. I figured instead of trying to mess around with some damn clip I might as well just epoxy the thing on. And since I used a modified SlotA Alpha heatsink, there wasn't any clip that would work with it anyway. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but now that I want to change the L6 bridges I guess I'm screwed. I could let it soak in acetone for about a week. :)

Tried all of the suggestions on overclockers.com for multipliers issues, but none of them helped. I think this is definately a BIOS issue, especially the way the 7x and 7.5x remap to 11x and 11.5.

Well, I slapped in my shiny brand spanking new K7T Turbo-R last night paired with a freshly unlocked 1gig tbird. Came up beautifully. This is an absolutely GLORIOUS board to work with, my god the capacitors are HUGE and spaced very well. For grins I changed the CPU frequency to 8 (lowest available to me on the 2.4 release bios), just to test the unlock job I had done. CPU came up at 1200mhz *boggle*, stable and happy as can be. I put it back to default and am now wondering, what next..? I've been reading all the K7T Turbo threads and it seems the best idea might be to sit on it at default and wait for MSI to pull its head out and release a better bios? I'm very tempted to try the beta OC bioses, but I don't like the mixed reviews seen here. I am using the onboard RAID so I don't want to risk losing that.

This thread seems to have died down, what are you guys all doing? Just riding the 2.4 release waiting it out?

Hmmm, 1200 MHz divided by 8 gives an fsb value of 150 MHz. What kind of RAM you using, Bucky?
