MSI K7T Turbo - 1 gig Duron - bios question?

Should any special bios be required to run a 1 gig Palamino (vs prior Spitfire) core Duron in a K7T Turbo MB? Understand this MB needs Award 2.7 for XP chip. Thanks for any input.

What BIOS are you running? BTW just for correction's sake it's a Morgan core for the Duron, not Palomino 🙂

I flashed my BIOS on my K7T Turbo just like 2 days ago to BIOS 3.2, but i think it would have taken an XP and /or Morgan Duron at the prior BIOS I had.. (2.8)

as long as you don't have the very first early revision of the board I'd say you will probably be fine.. if so though, I would suggest just flashing to the latest, I did and had no probs. at all.

Thanks for the fast response! Will check current version (that rig down just now). Seems I'd heard 1gig Duron had the same core as the Palamino XP, just not the on-die cache.

I'm not an experienced flasher, and wonder if "Live Bios" works for you?

Should I have an older bios, do you think the Morgan would run, but perhaps like a Spitfire core?

As far as I know, the only board revision is v3.0. Anyway I bought one as soon as my supplier had them. I flashed to the 3.1 BIOS and ran a Duron 1gig Morgan core cpu. The morgan core is the same a the XP core. It worked great on my system. I now have a 1.3 gig Tbird.

You might want to go ahead and flash to the latest BIOS available on this page. Or, if you are talking about the Turbo Limited Edition, you might want to go to this page. (The first link is for the Turbo2). Haven't tried the "Live BIOS" but the "normal" flash worked just fine for me. Except that you flash from the HDD. The procedure is explained on this page. I just did this for my wife's computer three days ago with no trouble at all. From the (minimal) research I did prior to that, you want to stay away from the Live BIOS procedures. Trouble.

Thanks guys for the good responses, including Buz for the links! Once I have rig back together, will look into flashing, unless I put in a Tbird too.

Still curious about my last question. Would an un-flashed older bios support 1 gig Duron, but only as a Spitfire core?

Sounds like a question for the BIOS writers so don't hold your breath waiting for an answer. 😉 Just an identification error that (hopefully) has been corrected in later releases. The board had no trouble identifying my wife's Duron 900 for what it was either before or after I flashed it.

Another suggestion: Write down or print the page of instructions for the BIOS flash procedure. You need to get the keystrokes correct for it to work and, at least for me, I confused myself because of thinking the "old way" and trying to access A: for the BIOS instead of C: Oops! But then again, I confuse myself alot lately. 😱
