MSI k7t pro 2A--running at 133 fsb, can any one confirm?

read over at overclockersthat if you have the right clock generator chip on your msi pro 2a that it can run at 133/and the only difference between the kt133a and kt133 is the clock generator, can someone confirm this??

KT133A = KT133 + New clock generator? We're checking up on a report that some recent K7TPro 2-As with the right clock generator (i.e., ICS UJ060279A) are actually capable of 133Mhz FSB. Clock generators that aren't up to snuff are ICS CP050208 and ICS UA7021

 
OK....now I have butterflies in my stomach...I just popped open my box and I have the "newer" ICS the "UJ060279A" one.

Any one with more information on this????

You guys are as bad as me...as soon as I read the post I shut down windows and popped the side off. Sure enough, I have the "good" Clock generator.

But we don't know if that means anything yet...it's just a rumor started by overclockers.com

I got my board in early December. It have a mix of 4700 and 3900 caps and no talking voice "smart-DLED"

Anyone else know anything???

Edit-Sorry...early November,,,,I beleive it was November 13th at 10:36am that the friendly FedEx guy handed me my MOBO.
 
Add me to the excited list. I just inspected my K7T Pro2A, purchased the week before Christmas, and it is confirmed.....I have a winner!😀
 
I hate to rub it in somebodys face, but will someone who doesn't have this chip post and let us know what yours is and when you bought it.

Otherwise, it looks like everyone has this chip...

I would assume just becuase we have the chip, doesn't mean we can go to 133 yet. I think there might me a voltage mod needed or a bios update.

It might not matter when you bought it because if the store had it in stock for a while then you could end up with an older model because that is what they had in stock. Because I bought mine from John who had just gotten a shipment in from his supplier and I don't have the new chip.
 
Silverbullet, the chip is just behind your AGP slot and next to your CMOS battery. It will be a small rectangular chip that starts with the letters "ICS"

umm, i have a ICS UP050446003994220AF, What does that mean? will this work at 133? thx 🙂

(i'm positive that that is the marking. I just bought the board off of John in the FS/T forum)
 
Rb, follow the instructions I gave Silver Bullet to find the Clock generator chip. And like Silver bullet says...only time will tell. I'm hoping the guys over at overclockers.com are burning the midnight oil on this one. I would assume it would be a bios update. I know my FSB was good (118 stable) but, there must be more. I know if I could give the i/o more voltage, I could go higher.

Just for kicks, I felt the Clock generator chip while the computer was in full load. There is not a bit of heat...so that's a good thing..I hear that it can be a problem on other boards.

Well, my fingers are crossed...if any KT133 board could do 133, I think MSI would have the best shot.

So, overclockers.com....if you're listening, I don't care if I have to solder resistors or flash my bios....just let us know.

if we wanted to OC the FSB that high you would have to lower the multiplier correct. Well how am i supposed to go about doing that cause my multipliers start at 10.5 in my bios.????
 
Sorry Rb...it was late last night. I guess my sense of humer hit the sack about an hour before I did.

Dave, you have a good point. That's why they are saying the Duron 600 - athlon 750 are the best for the 133 platform (with out getting a new 133 chip, of course) Becuase these chips will most likely do the default multiplier X 133.

What you and most people with higher mhz chips need is a new bios release that allows you to choose any multiplier. My friend has an Asus and he can pick any multiplier from 5.5 to 12 regardless that he has a Duron 750 installed.

So, I'm hopin there is a "Wonder-Bios" that is released that can address the 133fsb issues.

1/18/01 - Sorry, no MSI conspiracy. I've just been asked why I removed the reference to certain MSI KT133 mobos being able to run at 133Mhz.

I checked the ICS website and found that the part numbers given to me did not correspond at all to the part numbers of its clock generators. On top of that, they haven't updated that section for about three months.

At this point, I don't know if it's true or not. From what I'm reading about KT133A boards, it might be. Then again, it might not. If I get better word, I'll be sure to tell you. Ed

 
Let me add to that even before I do it on my own webpage.

I finally found the chip (I had been using a flashlight, and the print was so light, shining light directly on it showed nothing).

The ICS identification of the type of clock generator is on the THIRD line on the chip. I have 94220AF on mine.

However, all these ICS chips generate clocks of 133Mhz or more. What we don't know is whether a new clock generator enables speeds of more than 133Mhz, or whether the KT133A chipset does. This is an irksome question because we know some Japanese folks got KX133 boards to run as high as 155Mhz just by changing the clock generator.

Nor has it helped that MSI has been morphing the MS-6330 through all sorts of chip replacements. It was plausible that they might have put this one through, too.

The note I got indicated that BIOS version 1.7 enabled 133Mhz. Of course, KT133 boards have loads of FSB speeds; they just don't work. Quite possibly the writer thought adding FSB speeds meant they actually worked.

I don't have the "right" clock generator. Some of you do. If you have it, and at least BIOS version 1.7, and it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. It would be helpful if those who do have it also report the Via chips on the mobo.
