Ok, I just recently bought an MSI 945GCM478-L motherboard. Although I'm very pleased, I have an audio question. The board comes with the Realtek ALC888 series Audio (Surround 7.1). Its Intel High Definition. However, my case has audio headers that are AC'97.
Now, I've done a lot of reading, specifically from the Intel site. The mic and headphone pins are the same on both standards, its the other stuff that doesn't match (plug detection, etc..). This makes backwards compatibility, MOST of the time.
But its not working for me. So I'm beginning to wonder, what is up. I've completely looked at the audio software that comes from Realtek (updated just earlier this month). My software is telling me I have 3 mic ins, and they're labeled: Rear Pink In, Front Green In, Front Pink In. Hmm... I'm thinking that's weird.
And its not cause I messed with the connector pins, which are all back to default now anyways. Whether the connector is plugged in or not, the software still show these three mic ins.
I want to know does anyone have an opinion on this, do you think its a bug with the driver or the software? Thoughts please!
