So I'm not very up to date on amd's cpus; would any be able to push an r9 390 effectively, using this mobo?

You are going to pair a $300 video card with this motherboard? The PCIe x16 slot only operates at x4 speed.

Really? I would say no way if your going to be using a r9 390 you need something with at least a x16 speed PCIe slot.so go for a AMD 860K or the up coming 880K and a A88X FM2+ Mobo. Now if your going to use something like a r7 260x like me then that would be fine but as it stands you'd be looking a major set back and would only be able to use like 1/5th or less of the r9 390's processing power. The Cpu and x4 PCIe slot would hold you back way way way to much.

Uhh, no. AM1 platform isn't really for gaming, more for entry-level desktops, and HTPC rigs.

This would make a nice little HTPC mobo, for example.

But as others have stated, the x4 (electrical) PCI-E slot would hold back any decent discrete GPU card too much.
