Just did a clean install of 12.3s and AB 2.2 and it doesn't work with unofficial overclocking. Everytime I bump the clock up to 1200 my actual GPU clock get't stuck at 925 and it seems like PowerPlay disables itself...

Strong unofficial overclock bro.

Hmm, you might have to either

1) run afterburner with the -xcl argument and reboot

or

2) run asus GPU tweak and extend your clocks with that. (select advanced, click tuning, then select "extend overclock range". Then reboot, uninstall gpu tweak - Then you can overclock with afterburner.

I am not your "bro". Do the world a favor and stop using that obnoxious word.

think it has to do with the way it overclocks
that's the only variable that caused it.

i installed the 12.3 cats + afterburner, no issues overclocking
installed 12.4 cats, everything works fine
installed afterburner, weird glitches pop up on everything, desktop, games
i remove afterburner, no issues.

I am getting a worse bug than that.

12.4 cats, work fine, install AB, works fine...until I press APPLY, then it locks up the program, try to end process of program (It will NEVER quit "stop responding"), locks up PC. Uninstall AB, works fine.

Afterburner 2.2 not playing nicely with 12.4 on Sapphire OC 7850 here, even if I go back to 12.3. Forced to use TRIXX, but TRIXX is unable to downlock memory; it can only overclock. Weird bugs all around.

I prefer Afterburner over Trixx and I've had no issues with my Sapphire 7970 OC. But as a former long time Rivatuner user, I'm partial to software from Unwinder.

I agree, I have the Sapphire 7850 (stock, not OC). AB 2.2 and 12.4cats don't like each other. AB locks my PC up. I even used Trixx and it left me with a gray screen.

Yeah I uninstalled AB in the end. I'll wait for their software to catch up with hardware, hopefully not longer than a few more months. I don't really mind using Trixx though, as it's quite capable in its own right.
