Meep, the potential for the 9800X2 was more like the 8800 GTs in SLI, but seems like that's flopping just like 7950X2, nVidia better not crap out on the 9800GTX.

I have no clue what the hell is going on with nvidia & ati nowadays. (even though i try to keep up with it) None of the rumors or specualtion ever turns out right. (remember nv-40, geforce fx, and R300) For now it looks like the 3870x2 is rocking, 8800ultra g80 is at EOL, g92 is the "actual next gen core" and all we will see is more pixel shaders/rops/pipes/mhz/shader units/etc on this core. 9800gx2 is bout to come out, and will no doubt beat a 3870x2 as 2 8800gts512 sli beats 2 3870 512 crossfire. 9800gt and 9800gtx are coming with tri-sli connectors built into the top like the 8800ultras, and will support the ESA bullcrap. So with all this dull news, I can't help but wonder what (if anything) is Ati/Amd planning for us? To hell with the rumor mill.

Frankly, I really don't care anymore and will probably just buy it when i find a hot deal + 12% coupon when its actually on the shelves at BB. Its either going to be a "mystery chip" from Ati that takes the lead, or the 9800gtx single gpu solution which will be a highly clocked g92 with all the pipes & options turned on and support for tri-sli. So gay, I wanted the "smashing G100 or R700" pfft.

Forgot where it was but imagine all the important facts of the 8800 Ultra, like SPs etc. and double all of it, that's what the 9800 GTX is supposed to be, as for the 9800X2, I fear it's going to follow the path of the 7950X2 and possibly not even beat the 3870X2. I have high hopes for the 9800 GTX, I'll probably be disappointed a little but as long as the performance gains over the 8800 Ultra are high enough (not to mention I wanna run tri-sli :D) then we may finally have GPUs that can play Crysis at native or higher res with everything maxed out at 60+ FPS :p

If you're going tri-sli on the 9800gtx you're going to have the greatest chance. Just make sure you run whatever c2d/c2q you can get your hands on at the highest possible speed.

search benchmarks a 3ghz 45nm dual core c2d is faster than a 3ghz 65nm quad core c2q in crysis. :( With a tri-sli setup, as far as crysis is concerned, the highest cpu speed will make a difference when pushing the 3 9800gtx's

I'm hoping the 9800GTX becomes a reality soon. I'm tired of reading that it's nothing but a bunch of rumors. Would be nice if it ends up being faster than the 8800 Ultra.

From what I read. 9800GTX is just going to be G92 core but with faster clock speeds.

Based on what you read Azn, you'd be saying that after nearly 2 years of the 8800 GTX being out, we're going to see a puny performance increase, and the usual trend for nVidia is double the performance of the last-gen of that respective model.

Hell, I'll be happy to see the 9800GTX perform 1.5 times better than the 8800GTX/Ultra.

I'd get one...provided that the price point doesn't suck.

The 9800 GTX apparently won't be a next-generation part?rather, it's expected to feature a G92 graphics processor clocked between 750MHz and 850MHz. The clock speed advantage should allow it to outdo G92-based GeForce 8-series offerings, but if VR-Zone has its facts straight, the move will be more commercial than architectural.

I can google for 9800GTX specs and come up with 5 different rumors too. This is a definite wait and see.

Well the running estimates from all the sites I can remember is anywhere from 400 (highly unlikely but theres nothing wrong with hoping :D) to 700. Only the future will tell if it isn't just a stupid revision of the GTS and if it isn't, is it worth the price.

I also heard its a g92 based product. but they will call it g94/g98 or g100. It has memory usage improvements along with other things that help AA like in the 9600GT. But im sure it will have a host of other highlights and will probably read g100 in gpu-z as the 9600gt already reads g94
