MSI 9800GT??? Please

Hi just wondering what the difference between these two MSI 9800GT cards are

One is a MSI 9800GT and one is a N9800GT.

Any imput on these cards is appreciated. thank you

These good cards for the price. It will be running at Max resolution on a 22" LCD.

Not really but i do like it and the MSI cooler. Just trying to figure out what the difference between the two is.

I don't see any difference between those two MSIs, only that one is more expensive then the other. But like bamacre said, the EVGA card he linked there looks very sexy with that cooler that exhaust heat outside the case and it's cheaper then both of them.

But if you had the money, this could be a better choice:

since is faster then a 9800 GT and on par with a 9800 GTX+, for just 154 $.

The first on is the 55nm gpu revision and the 2nd one is the older 65nm gpu revision. The only difference is the 5nm one uses slightly less power and is slightly cooler. But that's it they would preform exactly the same in every day applications and games...

are you just making stuff up? I dont see anything that says its 55nm. also even on MSI site they just say that the N versions of their cards are new coolers. one of those cards is listed as having just a 1 year warranty if that makes any difference.

No if you look on the box, one says it has Hybrid power and the other one doesn't. Only the 55nm one supports this feature. You can verify that with either Evga or Xfx, that's where I got the info, because like the OP I too was wonder what the difference was a little while back and then Evga and Xfx support cleared that up for me

hybrid power has nothing to do with being 55nm or not. that was just a rumor before the cards were released. you can have a 65nm 9800gt with hybrid power.

This is correct. Hybrid Power is designed into the PCB. That's why 9800 GT cards that were born as 8800 GT does not have this feature. Cards sold with Hybrid Power were born as 9800 GT, and are relatively rare and expensive in comparison to "legacy" 9800 GT cards.

I don't know how to tell a chip is 55nm unless either the card manufacturer claims it, or you buy one and take it apart to examine the GPU. Software like GPU-Z is unable to figure it out.

you would be amazed at the stuff that companies tell you. an engineer from Acer once told me that all their 19inch widescreens were 8 bit panels. I have a friend thats an engineer for Honda and he doesnt know the first thing about cars yet he is in charge of the warranty division. a tech support agent for Charter cable told me Vista doesnt have safe mode with networking. I could do this all day...

Oh, BTW, "true" 9800 GT cards also support audio over HDMI (through an SPDIF passthrough).

the cheaper one has a 1 year limited warranty from MSI. They have slightly different cooler designs & graphics, and the cards are probably just different revisions of the same 512mb OC model. One has been listed for a little while longer than the other on neweggs page.

Is one 55nm and the other 65? no idea. hahah.

Well thanks for the help just seem odd that both cards are almost exact with different prices.
