I'm thinking about buying this card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814127332

MSI N9600GT-T2D512 OC GeForce 9600GT

I game at 1280 x 1024 and the 8800gt is only marginally better at that resolution so I'd rather get a 9600 or 3870
The reason I'd get this one over any other 9600gt is because of the free witcher game.

Is it a sound investment? I couldn't find any reviews on that specific card. The fact that most MSI card's are the cheapest in any model category makes me kind of nervous

and will prices for the 9600gt be dropping any time soon?

the card has just been released, why would the prices drop? if anything they would rise.

this card will be great for you, and it will perform almost exactly like the 8800GT since its an OC (speculated).

well. I think next time i'm gonna wait for a month after new cards come out. seeing as I payed 170 for a card that I can get for 110 now. 60$ depreciation in a month, so aggravating.

Well you had the card longer and the out of the door price for that card is still $150, rebate cash takes a long time to get to you and you end up spending it on something useless anyway.

The thing is the 9600GT had to drop because at $180 MSRP it was a little too expensive considering the 8800GT was only a few dollars more and could be significantly faster on some cases so that's why the prices dropped and the rebates came. Not to mention they had to stay competitive against ATI's price drops.

9600gt is really cheap to make compared to a 8800gt. 50% less transistors. It's just that you bought it when the chip was first released and didn't penetrate into the market yet.

Those SP make a difference in the end. Maybe not now since games aren't SP limited on a 9600gt yet.

I just got my 9600GT today from Newegg. It is the exact same model, except it has better cooling.

This is an excellent card and the price is right. You will also get a copy of the Witcher with this card for free.
