They also have the gigabyte.. it's more money though and is slower clocked.

I caved and ordered mine already.

Man that was quick, taken down in 20 min. My EVGA one probably shipped today from thenerds but I am fairly certain it's the base, non overclocked model. Guess I just gotta do it myself 😉

Yep... But that reminds me... Has anyone done a BIOS flash on their 8800GT to set the default speed?
 
lets see.. this is 10% faster then the 512MB 8800GT OC I ordered for 225$ (207 but I had to pay tax unfortunately)...

I am just not feeling it...

But if you have money to burn and want the fastest SLI setup around then go ahead.

I agree. Buy the 8800GT now, or wait for the 9800GTS (or its equivalent) when it comes out. You could get a 8800GT SLI setup for only a 100$ more than this single card!
 
I don't know why people are saying it is only 10%... Seriously, the move from 112 shaders to 128 alone is ~15% and the shader clock is 1650 Versus 1500 which is another 10%.

A stock G92 8800GTS has ~25% more shader power than a stock 8800GT. In addition to that, the dual slot cooler of the 8800GTS will 1) Run cooler, 2) Overclock Higher, 3) Exhaust hot air outside of case.

That's not exactly true. The face-to-face comparisons just don't support the GTS being that much better. Also, I would rather have a 8800GT (65nm) and use aftermarket coolers versus the old 90nm. What would happen if a 8800GT had dual-slot cooling? It would own the 8800GTS with overclocking overhaed, thats what.

Although I have no problems with you, and I do indeed make mistakes myself, I am not sure I can warrant that in this situation. This entire thread is based off of G92. Anyway, no worries... I am just really frustrated because people keep assuming this is based off of G80 and you were the person that happened to set me off... 😀

Not to metion the guy before who dropped in just to say "Worst deal ever" or something like that. Maybe that was in hot deals forum...

If I could get an 8800gt for that price I would instead of the GTS. The problem I have is that the only place I know of to find that price is Dell and last I heard Dell has been moving back shipment dates. Even the folks that ordered their cards the first day of the special are being told they won't get their cards shipped until the 19th of December. I would prefer to pay more to get a better cooler, power source, and more stream processors and have my card before my well deserved Christmas vacation.

After all, what good is being a systems analyst if you can't enjoy the money you make?

I guess that means I have money to burn. :beer:

 
The number of shaders alone should clue people in that this is not G80.

I've officially sold both of my 7900GTO's, now I just need to nab one of these tomorrow morning before they sell out.

Certainly I'm not alone when I say this... I'm about tired of hearing about how mighty the 8800 GT is for the money. Give it a rest. Let GTS buyers have their fun.

As new GTS owners get excited, they'll want to share their benchies and oc stories. Let's nip this thing in the bud. No dogging GTS owners for spending too much, and GTS owners, no dogging GT owners in any way..

Agreed... Besides, it isn't like one could say that the GTS owners were unable to 'afford' the GT. I always found that comical, to be honest... Anyway, enjoy your GT, I will enjoy my GTS (I hope...) and I think we are ALL in agreement that the 9800GTX is really what we are all waiting for...

Yea this is where it gets tough Spike. I think we're gonna see some good deals the first few days on OC models. Just gotta keep in mind they're all made on the same line. I ramped up my stock GTX from day one and never looked back..
 
My long wait is finally over and I can get the last piece of my build today (hopefully). I'm still on the fence about getting the GT or GTS. I hope with all the reviews we can get a clearer picture between the two cards.
 
I just cancelled my dell order because they kept on pushing the ship date back. At the rate they were going it would have been sometime next year before I could possibly hope to see those cards. The egg will have my evga gts to me later this week.

Amen to that brother. Just tried checking the EVGA Website to see if the 8800GTS 512MB had made it to the Step-up list, they are down for maintenance. Probably adding the card or their servers are just taking a pounding....

Looks like I was right. The EVGA 8800GTS 512MB is now available for Step-Up at $349, Crysis not included Not a big deal for me since I'm already in the middle of a Mid-Life Crysis anyway...🙂
