MSI 865PE Neo2-P

I was just setting up a system based on this board and found that it appears I can't overclock much without frying my AGP/PCI cards. Am I missing something?

I'm not familiar w/ MSI Bios. but it is probably set to default. Try setting AGP to 66, 67, or 68 manually and see if that works out.

Without updating the BIOS, you need to set the AGP lock to 67.

Newer BIOS versions have PCI/AGP locks set automatically.

I think I have latest BIOS and in neither version did I see an option to lock the AGP. Have I been too spoiled by my MSI K7N2 Delta-L that did everything for me out of the box?

Confirmed latest BIOS and that any changes for FSB affect AGP/PCI. Well, I've got an acronym for that: POS.

Bizarre. I know someone with this board, that I was just advising last night to upgrade their BIOS, since they haven't since they bought it. They're not overclocking, but if the async PCI/AGP freq is "busted" in the latest BIOS version, I'm going to tell them to hold off. Thanks for the heads-up.

(Wouldn't be the first MSI BIOS upgrade that broke something, my MSI KT400 board is suffering from MSI's buggy BIOS tweaks as well. 🙁 )

I don't think it's busted in just latest BIOS. This board was v3.6 and I have another at v3.3 (latest is 3.A, aka .10) and all have same limitation. I don't get it, this was suppose to be a great board.

AGP/PCI increased in ratio with FSB increase, but I found that I could finally manually manipulate them back to 66/33. Now running at 4GHz (222FSB). Scaling back to 3.7GHz so I can run my KingMax DDR500 at 510 (won't go higher) and keep CPU for totally frying.
