I installed the MSI 8500GT-MTD256EH (http://www.msicomputer.com/pro...GT-MTD256EH&class=vga) last week. The install was easy, the drivers that came on the CD worked on Vista, no problem.
All I can do right now HD-wise is watch OTA HD content on my wimpy 19-inch monitor... and that plays smoothly and looks as good as it can. I am purchasing a Samsung 40 inch 1080p LCD TV (LN-T4061F) before football season, so I will report back on the HDMI Output (if anyone id interested) as soon as I can, IF I keep the card...
The reason for my post...
I installed ntune to monitor the temperature because the heatsink was hot to the touch. But it isn't as scary hot since I put the case cover back on... it improved the airflow (Antec nsk2400 case with 2 - 120mm Yate Loon Fans). It says the "nforce:" temp is 105C and the GPU is 60C . This is with Vista aero on and watching OTA HD for about an hour. Keep in mind it really doesn't change much (if at all) while not watching TV. (With Vitsa Aero off, nforce: 96C, GPU: 60C)
What is the "nforce" temp?
Should I be nervous about the 105C nforce temp?
It seems high? I am definitely not an expert on video cards and the proper temps. I know 60C on the GPU isn't bad, but it isn't great either. It being an HTPC, I leave it running most of the time, and would like to keep that way. I think this card has great potential and want to keep it, but if this temp is no good, it may have to go back on the shelf??
Any infor on these temperature readings is appreciated.
