MSI 7900GTX purchased from Monarch computer

sorry but I just have to rant,

My ATI X1900XTX was in the process of RMA (my third card but that is another story) so I purchased a MSI 7900GTX from Monarch Computers on June 5th. Every game I tried would have small little squares all over the screen after 10 minutes. Then when exiting the game it would flash between a black screen and the desktop for about 10-15 times then my PC would lock up. I tried everything I could think of latest drivers, a new power supply (not sure why I did that as my x1900xtx worked just fine before it died), and the OS re-install but nothing helped.

I contacted Monarch for an RMA and they refused to issue an RMA. Since I did not purchase the extra Monarch warranty for $50 they will not offer a RMA even though this was a DOA card. So I contacted MSI and they will give me the RMA but I will receive a USED card. So I just spent $465.00 for a USED refurb.

So I have contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge. I did not request free shipping or a refund I just wanted Monarch to supply a working card (non DOA). I could understand this if the card worked for a week or two then dies I would have no problem RMA'ing it to MSI but this thing never worked.

Just a warning about Monarch. If you are unlucky like me and get a DOA card they will screw you if you do not purchase their extra warranty plan for $50 (which makes their prices very high)

I wish I would have known about this before I purchased from them.

EDIT: just wanted to add my x1900xtx is back and working just fine in the same pc.

I'd contact consumer affairs or whatever it is known as in America. That sounds like illegal behaviour to me.

is this the same kind of problem people are having with the overclocked 7900GT's and GTX's? Because this card is running stock clocks 650/800. Just makes me wonder if there is a bigger problem with the 7900 series.

Most people with problems get texture corruption in specific applications after a few days of testing.

I bought my MSI 7900GTX from ZZF for about a month now. I do not game often. My BF2 sessions last less than an hour. Only ran 3dMark05.....still afraid to run 3dMark06. So far so good.....though I am a bit afraid to OC it.

Good luck with BBB. I think it is BS that they will not honor a DOA card and force the customer to go through MSI. I'd continue to stick with NewEgg. Eventhough ZZF was about $10 cheaper....they took several days to ship whereas with NewEgg, if I place my order before 3pm PST I will have it the next day using UPS Ground or FedEx 2-day.

That is lame but, you should have noticed ahead of time when checking out it offers a "monarch warranty for $50 extra." That should have made you think maybe they do not RMA cards without that purchased. What else would a warranty purchased from a store be used for? Just my 2cents.

It shouldnt really matter that they send you a used card. If it works, it works. Its under warranty. Id personaly never buy an MSI or 7900gtx with all the failures lately. But I wouldnt worry about it being used. Im sure MSI will make good.

the $50 was for a 6 month warranty. I had no idea that would mean they would not take care of a DOA. Well anyway my x1900xtx is working fine (plus it is much faster in oblivion). I am sure my credit card company will take care of this as I know they want my business. It is just rather lame of Monarch to treat customers like this.

I agree its lame, however that is how they chose to do things. IMO, the fact that they offer a $50 extra warranty upon checkout should have seemed odd and made you think perhaps that means they wont replace it without purchasing the warranty. You decided not to get the warranty, so you took a chance. Sucks but, sorry. Thats just my 2 cents.

Monarch definitely does a few things differently than others.....Im still waiting for a $295 refund back to my creditcard from a purchase back on May 10th. Still no refund yet and it is now JULY.

They are a good site and have good deals, but they definitely need to rework some things.

Monarch is weird like that. Apparently you only get a Warrenty though the manufacturer unless you buy THEIR warrenty. Not sure if Newegg would be the same way if your card came DOA (they would probably send another).

Good luck. Also, Thats why I always go EVGA if it's a Nvidia Card. Great Costumer Service.

Post a negative review on Reseller Ratings and they will call you, no joke. Monarch is very low on my list. Search for an RR review by fbrdphreak, that's mine and you can see my BS ordeal.

Your story sounds way fishy.

You say you bought this 7900GTX card while waiting for the 3rd RMA on another card? And then you limped along on the 7900GTX until your 3rd RMA shows up and now the 3rd RMA'd card works just fine while the 7900GTX suddenly died?

Not buying it.

I think Monarch knows how to deal with guys like you who "rent" videocards.

P.S. For future reference, a DOA card means "dead on arrival" not "I used it until my other card showed up".

you dont have to believe it. i could really care less. if that was true i would not have wanted an replacement i would have wanted a refund. my plan was to sell the card on ebay and get close to what i paid for it (up until the point when i installed the 7900gtx i was not sure which card i was gonna keep). sounds like you have a plan there maybe one you have used in the past.

If i need another video card I will just go buy it i do not need to work out some card rental program you laid out but thanks for playing you tool.

Tool? Nice... about what I would expect from a scammer like you. ;)

What do you do to all those videocards anyway? Most people don't have that much trouble with videocards. I build a lot, A LOT, of systems and over the years I have only gotten 1 card that was DOA(it was actually dead too, wouldn't post or nothing, go figure, lol).

hey fool (oops my bad it is crazyfool)search ebay for item #8806909106. this is the bfg7600GT i purchased to use when my first ATI rma took longer than 3 weeks. just search ebay for that # and send the seller an email. I will reply with the words YOU ARE A TOOL (so you know it is me). If what you said was true I would have just returned it to best buy for a refund.

Yeah, but you didn't buy it from Best Buy, did you?

What do you do to those cards anyway? :D

Round one... FIGHT! :D

Seriously though, you wont lose that much money on EBAY because MSI sent you a used card. Most of the stuff on EBAY is used and your card wouldnt be NIB either way.

Just make sure the card works.

oh jeez the first x1900xtx just died no post. the replacement they sent out worked but was damaged (the back plate was all bent and the board was chipped), the one they sent after that worked for about 3 days then died (sometimes it would post sometimes it would not display anything until the windows logon). up until april (when the first xtx died i had never had a bad card).

sorry but if you dont like the tool comment why dont you not post crap like you did when you have no clue what you are talking about. i currently own 4 pc's one for me and the others for my other family members.

Most stores offer an extended warranty on stuff but still will return an item within 30 days no questions asked. To not replace a defective item within that time is lame. Monarch will never see my business. Good luck getting your refund back but you should have known about their policy of not refunding stuff bought online. Oh well it's only $295. Just my 2 cents.

Their policy of not refunding stuff bought online? What the crack addict? You are not funny. Reject. :|

And actually, I have ordered probably 50 items from them and I was aware their refunds take forever when I canceled and DID expect it. However this is the longest they have taken to do so. Your logic made no sense.

I'm just saying your story is very suspect.

DOA means dead. Not "I got it on the 5th of the month, used it for a while, then it broke".

Monarch would owe you a new card if it showed up dead... which it didn't.

After that, it's on the manufacturer.

This all assumes your story is true but based on what you've said you have no beef with Monarch and I think it's dishonest to claim it was a dead card after you used it.

I think I am closer to the truth than you let on. ;)

i may have to do that if my credit card company is not able to help. it is more a matter of principal now than anything.

CrazyFool,

still waiting on that email (via ebay).
