MSI 760MP dually board for $200

800w power supply? I don't think so. More like 450ish watts.

The benefits are clear, especially if you are using applications which can take advantage of the extra horsepower. Let's wait for some real benchmarks now 🙂

Me myself, i was planning on dumping this dual and getting a 760MP early this year but i think i'll just wait for the KT266MP. VIA won't let me down. Besides, with 760MP performing nice and above the competition, you still have to think of the preperation of;

1) I think you may need a new case ATX 2.03 spec? or WTX form factor(i'm saved here, thank god for my addtronics WTX8500)

2)New Power supply, probably another 100 dollars or more

3) new memory(if your still using SDRAM) upgrade to DDR

4) Video card woes, i don't think us V5 receipients will have a home for V5 with the 760MP(agp pro slot right?)

5) All you ppl who like using those tiny ATX cases, don't even think about how hot its going to run while at Idle.

I rather wait till a compatiblity PDF is released and then hop on it.

<< Nice? Yes. But is it worth it? I doubt it >>

NFS4, why wouldn't it be worth it?

I would definitley wait for a second Generation to come out before I even consiudered buying one. Let the Pioneers get the Arrows in the back first.

For me it wouldn't. I do web browsing, a little gaming, word processing, and that's it.

And here are more boards:

<< If you have been following the web, you have probably know that Tyan announced their Dual Socket A solution. Other manufacturers have also started to release news of their AMD760MP boards.

MSI will release K7D Master and will feature four memory slots, 1 AGP Pro, 1 CNR, 1 PCI 64, 3 PCI 32 and onboard LAN. Chaintech will have a 7KDD, Gigabyte will have GA-7DPXW.

ASUS will also be releasing ASUS A7M266-D which is a ATX mainboard and most likely will have similar features meant for servers and worksations. Thus we should expect to see similar configurations as the other major brands.

Out of all those boards listed, the only one i see relibable in my house is that MSI and SM, all the others might have to play catch up.

<< New board 200.00
2 CPU's 250.00+
New PS 100.00
Look on everybodies face at the LAN parties...........priceless >>

LOL @ mikef208

This tidbit of MSI news is absolutely delicious.

Although such things as onboard RAID, sound, etc., system manufacturers see this as a way of lowering overall costs. In cases of sound, the cost difference between including it and not doing so is probably negligible.

Now, if we start talking USB 2.0 and FireWire, then I'll start bullying my way to the front of the line.

how much does having onboard sound add to the cost of making the board? $10 maybe? the manufacturer would rather have one board design and include it, imho...

WOW now this is going to be the board I am going to buy. I am glad i can get one without all that scsi and 64bit pci stuff i would havae never used. Hurray for MSI!!!

Look over at 2 CPU's web site, on the front page.
I don't think someone liked the MSI much...🙁

EDIT(quote taken from 2cpu)::

<< Apparently this one gentleman claimed he had access to both Tyan's and MSI's 760MP boards...

"Beeker, one word of advice.. Stay clear, way clear of the MSI dual!"

"...im typing this from a Tyan Dual with 2 1.4 gig Palomino's, its stable as hell and fast. I too have built my share on Intel Servers and never seen the word Rock Solid Stable.. I can also say that ive never seen both CPU's under full load on ANY Intel Dual System under NT, but i can say i have seen it here with the 760MP. I do Concur, MSI at its current state is a sorry *** company and i will leave it at that."
I put absolutely no stock in things like this, but I chuckled when I read the email. Sue me (unless you're MSI, then don't sue me. I love you. Honest).

But again, you cannot believe everything you read..🙂

I wish it was August already so I could upgrade..
Has anyone considered the noise level of two Delta fans on Swiftech coolers? Might have to keep the computer in the closet if its too noisy..

Watercool = almost no noise

Either cup1 to little rad. to cpu 2 to BIG rad. or A branch where like 5/8 tube splits, goes to both CPU's, then back together to the rad.

Water cooling never occurred to me but it would be the quiet way to go
but the fans would add to the wind noise in Nascar 4

As far as on-board RAID and SCSI, you can get an SCSI or RAID controller for $100 [$200 MSI mobo+$100 Controller<$550 Tyan K7 Thunder]. I'm thinking about this board now for when I purchase a new system in a month, and then I would just get a Promise FastTrak100 for RAID. SCSI doesn't really interest me at this point, I'm more interested in space than speed.

I don't really have any experience with MSI boards though; is MSI a high-quality manufacturer? Thanks for any input.

About the noise of two deltas, I think that the palominos are supposed to be a bit cooler, less wattage intensive, we can only hope this will make overclocking easier, but people insane enough to build these systems without any apparent use will probably be using watercooling.

<< Is that a "Hell Yeah!!" from the Photoshop and Video Editing community I hear? 🙂 >>

No man thats a HELLS YEAH!!!!!!!! I posted about the 760mp last week, made by tyan, but 600 bucks, This is what I need. Scsci or not, I could care less, I need dual processing power.

Maybe its not a 3ghz machine, but in certain areas it clearly will perform twice as fast, as we can seen in Anands benchmarks of the Xeon, many tests revealed twice the speed. In graphics editing, I'm guessing real world performance, 1.5 times as well...

Heck it ain't a dual G4, but its still cheaper than a single G4. I can't wait now!!
