I am going to return my Xfx 6950. Its too loud for my tastes. I am really thinking about getting the Msi 6950 Twin Frozr II. How are these models in general? Are the fans very very quiet and how reliable are MSI cards? I will not overclock. I've also heard that this Msi 6950 is actually shorter than a normal 6950, is this true? I can't seem to find any specs on it...

Thanks

I have a gtx465 twin frozr II. Even with this notoriously hot chip, if do not aggressively overclock my GPU, the fan never needs to go above 40%, which is inaudible in my antec900 case. Even with a huge overclock, the fan never needs to go above 50% in gaming situations, which still cannot be heard above low speaker volume settings.

The twin frozr cooler is pretty awesome. Roommate has a 6870 with the same cooler, it is nice and quiet.

I'm a bit of an ATI fan myself. I like the ability to control the fan speed within the drivers. I know Nvidia's can't do that without installing some 3rd party stuff..

MSI's afterburner can control the fans on Nvidia cards.

Also don't close your eyes on Nvidia products. They make very good cards.

The MSI 560 is outstanding. 54C under load

Oh don't get me wrong I have used both ati and nvidia. I just mainly play BC2 and it seems ati cards are better then nvidia on that game..

I may get the MSI GTX560 then. How long is that card? Is it the same length as the 6870?

Yeah same length. You said you wanted something that runs cool, is quiet and performs well in bc2... The Msi 560 does that

Yeah that sounds good. By default do you have any idea how fast the fan spins on that card percentage wise? I know on ATI cards fan speed is like 20%, I'm hoping that nvidia's is about the same..

EDIT: Nice Avatar Supernatural is one of my Favorite shows. It sucks they moved the new episode till next week..

After reading some reviews it almost looks like the msi gtx560 isn't all that quiet. Some reviews have it on par with stock cooling

6870 and GTX 560 aren't even in the same price bracket lol.

Your looking more at 6950 vs GTX 560 Ti.

Which reviews? I have a 6870 twin frozr ii and even at 100% I can't hear it in my antec 1200. You have to remember people are doing reviews on an open tech bench and not in a computer case.

According to the review I linked yesterday.. not sure who did it as im posting from my Droid.. the 560 twin frozr was the 3rd quietist with auto fan and it still pulled a 54c load temp. When you start increasing fan speed the db will go up but its not needed. Just leave it on auto.

It's on par with the stock cooler while making the GPU 20 degrees cooler. You can set the fans to go slower if you want, but the card will be incredibly quiet under load. At less than 41 decibels, unless you have the sides of your case off and no other noise making products in the room, you will not hear the card.
