I have a MSI 6163 Pro mobo. The LED light is hanging and gives the following message in the manual:

Description: Initializing Floppy Drive Controller
This will initialize Floppy drive and controller

Possible problem/solution: System D-LED will hang here
Floppy drive cable might
be installed properly.

Well I have tried at least two cables ; one freshly unpacked and no dice. originally there was a Slot 1 Coppermine 650E with a Matrox 4 meg PCI vid card. Those were removed and replaced with a PPGA Celeron 533 and an 8 meg Matrox AGP card. Everything else has remained the same. I have cleared the CMOS on more than one occasion. Unplugged the floppy power and/or data cable also. Even unplugged problem still occurs. Considering that even when unplugged it still can't initialize makes me think it is the mobo at fault.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Does this mobo by any chance have a jumper to switch between PPGA and Cumines/Celermines. Some mobos did, also some slotkets.

No it is a Slot 1 mobo. The new Abit Sloket on it has the jumper set for PPGA now.

Either the floppy controller is shot or possibly one other problem. Maybe the underside of the mobo is shorting a trace to ground that is effecting the floppy controller. Unplugging, re-plugging cpus or PCI cards can add just enough pressure to cause some stray standoff or other sharp object to ground a trace on the bottom of the mobo.
