I used the MSCONFIG util. to remove unwanted processes from running. I had 45 active, not I got it down to 32, and everything was running fine, Until.
Now, when I use the START/Turn Off PC/Restart or Turn Off, it will shut down Windows, but leave the destop bkgrd picture remaining on screen, also, it actually will not completely power down, and leaves NUM LOck light lit up. I have to hard power down to shut off PC.
I enabled all processes again, and it still does this. I load only necessary processes, and it still does this. And, I was logged on as Admin, in safe mode to change MSCONFIG settings at this time.
When I am prompted to restart from pop up window at end of using MSCONFIG, it restarts fine, no probs. Only when I try to turn off or restart from normal operating mode does it hang. The screnn will flicker one, and Desktop dissapears, then finall start bar/task bar dissapears, leaving dsktp bkgrd on.
WINXP pro/SP2 OS
I tried with all AV and firewall off, no good.
What exactly did I screw up? help! now I have to "hard power off" each time.....

UPDATE:
After 12 errors last night, and 10 more this morning before I posted, NOW, all of a sudden, it "fixed" itself?
I double checked all running processes before the error, and after, and nothing is different. I have no clue why this started, or, why it stopped. But, for now, it is working...... :s
