How do I disable that freakin annouying message that pops up everytime I start windows (XP) after editing the startup tab? I know I can remove most/all of the items using regedit but I don't want them gone from the list I just want them disabled.

very true!
also if you want to check that startup programs are disabled to your satisfaction & you find that they are, close using the x at top right!

Bu the little check box says something to the effect of 'don't show this message or run the sys config utility at startup' I took that to mean that it won't run my customization I made through msconfig.

I'll play with it and see if it works.

Thanks,

When you make and save changes using msconfig, they are written to the registry, they do not need to "run".

That little box is just telling you that it won't run msconfig.exe at startup. Any changes you made with it will take effect regardless.

Just in case anyone else runs through this thread looking for the same answers (I had to think it through for a second myself when I first upgraded to XP)
