mSATA based iPod?

Question: why hasn't Apple updated their iPod Classic (with the 1.8" spinning HD) with an mSATA 256 Gb storage drive? Same for the iPod Touch, iPad Air, or maybe even the iPhone.
Do any other brands of pocketable music/video players offer devices with mSATA storage?

mSATA is far too big and bulky to go into an iPod Touch, iPad Air, or iPhone. Those devices uses NAND soldered right into the motherboard. They could rework the iPod classic to use mSATA, but why bother? It's not a high-volume product anymore.
