MS XP Professional Test

I am taking this MCP test on Tuesday, I've been kind of skimming through the Exam Cram book. Anything in particular I should concentrate on? One of my co-workers said there is a lot of questions on Active Directory, Group Policy, and permissions.

Anything else? Comments? Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, Active Directory, Group Policy, and permissions are the only thing in the entire realm of Windows sysadminning that they can actually have non-pointless questions on. I can't think of anything else that isn't elementary offhand. The absolute best way to test your understanding would be to set up a mini-LAN at home using a free eval copy of 2003 Enterprise as the domain controller, but your timeframe is a bit short

When I took the exam, I found a lot of questions were based around permissions and encryption. I would go over AD, Permissions and Disk structures thoroughly as they seem to be favourites in the question I and my colleagues got recently

Yea, as I'm reading this it's really mostly configuring on 2000 Server boxes which I do all day at work. I'm taking the Exam Cram practice test right now and it's not that bad...yet.

Make sure you understand NTFS and shared permissions, and the net effect of combining those. Also file systems and partitions. There should be some network troubleshooting in there too. Don't be surprised if the MS exam is twice as hard as the practice ones you're doing.

There is very little AD on that test, don't waste your time on that for this test. Know your NTFS and share permissions, printers, and know your local security policy settings. Exam Cram should provide you with enough info to pass the test.

Like deny overrides allow permissions? I was reading up on those...I think I got them down. I'm just kind of worried I'm gonna fail, I'm not the best test taker. Hopefully I'll do okay.

Thanks. I need to get to get this and my CCNA by the end of May 2006. I would like to get my MCSE too, but I probably won't be able to get it in that time frame.

Well, I took it today and passed. It had it's difficult parts, but if anyone is going to take it buy the practice test engine from testking.com. They had some of the questions from testking on the actual test, that really helped me.

using testking or the like is cheating, but the value of most certifications is next to nothing nowadays so i guess it really doesnt matter

It was only a handful of questions I saw that were on the actual test. Plus, it explained what the question is about and such.

Too bad 80 percent of the stuff in the book I read will be useless.

Its been so long since I have done the basic 2000/XP exam... Permissions, Group Policies, Encryption, Command line stuff, drag and drop easy stuff... I've found that if you have any knowledge of Windows 2000/XP you can pass it...
