Mr Monti has ordered Microsoft to reveal details of its Windows software codes within 120 days, to make it easier for rivals to design compatible products.

MS should just stop selling their products over there if they're going to be whiney bitches about how MS does business. They shouldn't have to share their source code with bums who can't make an OS on their own... it's THEIR source code.

I wouldn't be surprised if one day Bill Gates said, "Enough is enough. Microsoft is closing it's doors. Since you don't appreciate what Microsoft has brought to the computing world, the wealth of the company will be spread across it's employees and there will never be another microsoft product made or supported ever again."

*EDIT* LOL... or even better, give them the Win9x source code right before they release Longhorn, lmao.

**EDIT** Taking bets... is Mr. Monti French or not? :D

Dave Stewart, one of Realnetworks' lawyers, said in an interview with Reuters that the ruling probably will allow the company to increase its market share.

No it won't. I hate Real Player with a passion and will never have it installed on my computer even if there is no other media player in existance. I just won't listen to music or watch video clips if I must use real player.

yeah, they should be allowed to break the law since their product has become the defacto standard for desktop operating systems!

I'm with you there, Real Player is up there with AOL as far as stuff you don't want on your computer.

Same here! I don't feel so out of line now by being so damn adamant about not installing that piece of junk on my computer. I'll just not watch the clip. Oh well.

That's the most ignorant thing I've ever heard. MS already integrators with what they need to design compatible products, but to request the source code would imply they wish to take advantage of undocumented functionality that might very well change (and often does) in later releases; that's the price you pay as an integrator! I know of no other company that goes to such great lengths to make sure people have the information they need to design the appropriate solutions. This ignorant drivel annoys me.

I suppose we should just do away with capitalism completely then huh? Make the USA a socialist country... or better yet, lets just revert to communism.

I think the essence of the argument is that by bundling in software like Windows Media Player for free, MS is using it's OS base to unfairly capture the market for other s/w products, thereby making it difficult for companies like RealNetworks to sell their own s/w. Does MS have a pay-version of Windows Media Player? I think that alone would kill the monopoly argument.

EDIT: I didn't want to state the obvious and say RealOne sucks. If forced to pay, I would rather pay for Windows Media Player.

So a company is not allowed to give away free features. Utter insanity. Ya know, now that I think about it... I think I'd rather use MAC's GUI, and the Linux Journaling file system, and the FireFox web browser... so... Windows shouldn't bundle it's GUI, file system, or web browser with it's OS anymore because they're being unfair.

Please!

*EDIT* Ya know what else... I want to continue to browse the AnandTech Forums, but I don't want to use Fusetalk. AnandTech is creating a monopoly making it difficult for AnandTech users to use their preferred message board program and making it difficult for the creators of other message board programs to get their software in the hands of AT users... they should make mirror forums using all available message board programs.

I think they don't have a problem with the bundling as long as it can be 'unbundled'. MS insisted that IE cannot be unbundled from Windows (which I found exceedingly moronic considering how late into the Windows Platform MS embraced the internet). On the other hand, s/w makers should just stop making software products for the Windows platform. That way, MS would get what it wants - one monolithic product that is largely stable and gives the consumer everything he/she wants. The ISV would get what they want - a level playing field where they don't have to be a multi-billion dollar company that re-invents the OS just to be able to sell a specific software product.

people's sweat went into that OS. If i worked hard to make that OS, i would not want it to be given away just like that.

Jeff7181,

your myopic views are only equalled by your verbosity. There are many issues at hand with Microsoft, and the EU is doing what the U.S. should've done a long time ago. And bashing the Europeans, particularly the French, will not accomplish anything. You're just a retard (or at best, an inadequately raised, immature teenager) on a big forum - luckily, your frothing at the mouth is just water under the bridge. Now shut up and go back to your McDonald's/AOL/Disney/FoxNews regular schedule.

I'm an American. I believe in what the country was founded on. If that makes me a "retard" or an "inadequately raised, immature teenager" then I'm proud to be just that.

Maybe you should look up the word "verbosity." Doesn't look like you know what it means.

Yeah, verbosity = logorrhea. Or maybe, more accurate in your case, verbal diarrhea. Zip up, your red, white and blue is showing.

I think MS should stop selling their products in any country/area that sues them. I bet the people suing them use the products and they'd change their tune. Ms can just make multiple version of all their stuff but have everyone have to order it from the US. THen I don't think courts in other countries would have any say in anything...

If you think that's an insult you're mistaken. Remember... I'm a proud American.
