"Money talks. Microsoft is in the business to make money.
The benefit to Microsoft is their ability to leverage Corel knowledge of Linux in order to deliver interoperability of the .Net product line (primarily Windows) with Linux. The more platforms .Net runs under the more likely .Net will be accepted by the software community out there, and the higher chance Microsoft will be able to convert their investment in Corel into profit.
The benefit to Linux consumers is the ability to peacefully (?) co-exist with data from the Windows world.
Question is, how will Microsoft crack the next challenge ... to get Sun, HP, and IBM servers to work with .Net technology?"
According to one of the people who posted a reply to this article on ZDNet, MS is mostly interested iin getting thier hands on a good Graphics application to compete with adobe, as of now, MS doesnt have anything on Photoshop or Illustrator
edit: but then again, it seems as though .NET would be much more important to MS
AOL will probably beat Micro$oft to control of the universe. They have all the profiles needed to manipulate the masses. Microsoft may have the money for leverage to control other companies, but mass psychology will reign the public. Keyword "Tyranny".
