Have you ever thought that people use Windows because of the user friendliness? I can understand where you're coming from. Just because they're a monopoly doesn't mean they can make a crappy product or produce one that has a lot of security flaws.

windowsupdate works for me, tho I'm in Linux so it just takes me to that site that says I need to be running a valid MS OS, and then gives me further info. This page is probably hosted on the actual www.windowsupdate.com server which isn't getting attacked (if it is) like the microsoft.com one is ?
