Why would anybody pay $20 to beta test software for Microsoft? Especially software that will cease to function in 6 months or so???

I searched and didn't see it posted Sorry.
People Might want to spend $20 to see if they like the software before the go and spend $200 plus on the full version.

Thank you :p

$200? More like $500 - if you purchase the retail version and do not qualify for the upgraded version.

I've been playing with Office XP for a few days and it's pretty nice. Very similar appearance to Office 2000, but better 'workgroup' features and additional Internet capabilities.

I actually posted this a week or two ago. I ordered it the same day it was posted and I received it Friday of last week although I did pay the extra $$ for the express shipping.

Not that this is a review forum or anything, but I've found some pretty annoying issues already (45+ seconds to list the files in a dir w less than 100 files) and the features wouldn't prompt me to upgrade from 2K.

Yeah..the final version is already out on the net. It's a pretty decent improvement. Similar to the 97 to 2000 upgrade.. some nice fixes and improvements here and there.

If that is so, it's not worth bothering.

It's not like you won't be able to find a way to remove the expiration later. Not that I would do such a thing. That's bad.

I love how everyone bitches about MS software!
If there was no MS office, what the hell would we be using? Wordperfect and Lotus 123?!?! Or Lotus Ami Pro???

Give me a break, MS Office is by far the best and most usefull software product (for personal/individual use) out there. Yet people bitch that MS Software sucks...

Could you imagine productivity without sh*t like word, excel, and powerpoint?

And I gotta say, win 2k isn't bad either.

if there wasn't microsoft, there would be other things. But i'm curious, what is so "new" and improved about every other upgrade for office? What special features makes it different (and worth it) than say office 95?

The new XP has speech recognition tools already integrated in it. You can dictate in any Office document, or you can use Voice command to control all Office programs.

Microsoft is trying again to get rid off competitors in voice recognition (like IBM, Dragon, etc.) by doing this integration.

Also, this beta version only work till 8/31/01, after that, become a reduced functions. $20 for beta software for 5 mos. usage, I am not sure it's worth the money.
