MS Office vs iWork

I know MS Office is far better than Corel WordPerfect and Apple iWork. I still have MS Office 2008. I understand MS stopped supporting 2008 version this month. I use Word to create resume but I wonder about Page can convert to Word format that can be read by employers via email attachment?

Thank you

Pages can indeed convert to and save a Word compatible document. You would still want to confirm that formatting is as you expect.

PDF is a universal format and really should be accepted everywhere, but Word documents are the de facto standard and the recommended résumé format.

Everywhere I've looked at jobs would accept either. The only reason I'd recommend it over .docx is because of Word's tendency to throw your careful formatting off when you open a file on a different computer.

Or using a different version of Word.

Or on the same computer, with the same version of Word, when the moon isn't in the Seventh House and Jupiter isn't aligned with Mars.

God, I hate Word.

Anyway, even then I wouldn't think it'd matter, except I suspect HR people have to have some reason to whittle down the absurd number of applications from qualified candidates, and "well, their resume doesn't look right on my computer" is as good an arbitrary reason as any.

It irritates me when I submit a resume in pdf and they come back and ask for word. It's like... You don't have the free acrobat viewer, but you have a $300 office suite?

It was especially annoying when I had my fancy weird design resume that I used in certain cases for some more creative positions that I did in InDesign... I'm had to submit my boring resume then.

To the OP, iWork usually does fine, but if you're looking for 100% compatibility, I'd suggest just buying Office for Mac. It's only like $110 or so on sale usually if you don't require Outlook and it's a massive improvement over 2008.

My fear if I submit PDF resume and the employers might not reply me back. I saw MS Office with only Word I don't need Excel, Powerpoint, or Outlook. I will ask about the pricing.
Thank you very much

Just because Microsoft stopped supporting 2008 doesn't mean it won't continue to work. Just save in .doc or preferably .PDF.
