MS Natural keyboard buttons won't work assigned to shortcuts

If I use intellitype pro to assign programs/shortcuts to buttons on keyboards, they will only work if they are actual program files and not shortcuts.

The thing is, it was working fine before. What got botched? Pressing a button assigned to any shortcut does absolutely nothing. Tried reinstalling Intellitype pro, no help there.

Why not just assign it to an application? I do that for my Natural 4000 and Comfort Curve 2000 and it works every time...
