I am still using windows 7 and I realize that one day MS will no longer support this version. So likely a move to windows 10, or its successor, will be necessary. What i really dislike is the aggressive updates that arrive that kind of pre-commit the user to move to windows 10. For now its my intention to continue with windows 7 in spite of all the glowing reviews of windows 10.

Win 7 is supported for another 5 years.

You can wait with the Free Upgrade for another 10 Months.

Another few months Win 10 will stabilize and the immense "Drama Queening" of both MS and the Enthusiasts would calm down and life will return to its regular Boredom. :colbert:

That's the thing for me. Upgraded my laptop, but the desktop will be on 7 for a while, most likely. Used a spare hard drive to install the free upgrade. Uninstalled and hid the upgrade-reminders on the SSD and don't have to deal with it until I want to. I suggest you just hide the upgrades it if is bothering you that much.

Hehe don't bet on it, end of the day they will find something to make a drama out of, every year seems to be a drama of something.

You are absolutely right. The first quarter of the 21st Century in the USA would probably be called in the future the "Drama Queening Era".

So there is New Baseline "Always Drama" with Peaks and Valleys.

At the Moment the Win 10 Drama is at a Big peak.

i guess my point was that the updates seem to renew themselves even when they are hidden. I am not a conspiracy nut but what is the agenda of MS to make win 10 free? all opinions invited. :D

Go into Windows Update settings and uncheck the "recommended" box. Boom. No more "push" for windows 10.

It is not that aggressive at all. It is only doing its job that you told it to do somewhere along the line. Windows 10 is a recommended update, so when you have it told to give recommended updates to you of course it will try to install it.

I agree Microsoft is being very pushy with it. I am skeptical about how all this plays out. Something tells me I'm going to be looking at 2007-2014 as the glory days of PC gaming.

I did that, but it just came back today. Second or third time. First thing you see when you open Windows Update, and it was set to install when I hit the shutdown button. This is getting annoying.

Well you have to remove the updates too. Sorry should have specified that. Main one is 3035583.

I've uninstalled the update that installs the "Get Windows 10" app... and WU has still downloaded the Windows 10 - afterwards.

NASA has software that may not be able to run on non-Windows XP machines at all, which isn't the case for most all end users. Microsoft is making billions from complacent government agencies around the world for continued support contracts.

Certain organizations is just extremely slow to upgrade. And it got nothing to do with software compatibility. US Army, NASA, IRS, UK Gov, US Navy, banks etc. Its due to how these organizations work (Conservative mindset). They simply lack the needed dynamics.

Actually it can be due to software, at Boeing we have tons of custom software, we were stuck on XP for years, got into Win 7 about 5-6 years ago, still have certain apps that don't work with any Office newer than 2007 or IE8....finally going to get past those two limitations in a few months....

Win 10 is free and it works great, and it games fantastic. Once games are written to support Dx12 it'll only get better. Some peeps need to do some learning before making such silly comments....

Has nothing to do with that mindset. It is the other party that is always trying to cut finding to military etc. But let's keep political nonsense out of the non-political forums.

If you are stuck on a 14 year old OS and cant even update to a 6 year old one. Then someone failed flat out along the road. And shouldnt be working with what they work with.

The future will only be much more dynamic with OS update. And no update can mean gaping security holes that will never be fixed.
