MS Intellipoint software - install?

I just got an Intellimouse Explorer. Is the intellipoint software worth installing? What does it do? Running WinXP...

WinXP doesn't come with the ability to program the extra buttons?

Also w/ my Logitech mouse on my old Win98 system, w/ the mouseware drivers installed, I'd program one button to close programs (Alt F4), but sometimes in a game, even after programming (inside the game) that button for something, the mouseware drivers would sometimes still do the Alt F4 inside the game instead of what I programmed in the game. Do the intellipoint ever have this type of problem?

Bump.

What additional tweaks do they have? Does WinXP not come w/ the ability to configure buttons 3-5 (both M$ products)?

What on earth makes you think the M$ hardwear people even talk to the
O/S people?

Really, just download and install the latest Intellipoint. The configuration
for the buttons is pretty self-evident.

Taken from Microsoft website
IntelliPoint software gives your Microsoft® mouse full functionality and lets you customize the mouse to fit your needs. For example, you can:

Reassign each of the mouse buttons, including the wheel button, to perform a command or keyboard shortcut.
Modify the mouse settings, such as the pointer speed or wheel scrolling rate.

Download it from here .
