ms intellimouse problems

im having a major problem w/ my optical mouse.....it seems to me that the mouse will not track correctly, the cursor just moves wildly around the screen...now heres the weird part, when i reboot, this is when the mouse is usually messed up, now if i go into the system and change the drivers to "ps/2 compatible mouse" or "ms ps/2 intellimouse" (whichever one im not using at the moment) the mouse will work like its supposed to. my question is why is it doing this?? it gets really fustrating to have to change drivers everytime i reboot. has anyone else had this kind of problem w/ their mouse?? im down to my last draw here and am about to toss this thing out the window, if it were not for this problem i would love it....anyways can anyone help???
 
I've had that same experience with that mouse but I never knew about changing the drivers to get it to work. Optical mice are kinda weird. is your mouse 2nd Generation?
 
unfortunatly i dont have a usb port, the place where i bought my comp at ripped me off so thats out of the question...does anyone have any suggestions??
