MS Explorer Optical Mouse....help!

I can't seem to get the MS Explorer Optical Mouse to work. I plug it into the USB port, the computer recognizes it but doesn't light up. I installed the software that came with it (I think it is 3.02) with no response. Does anyone know If i'm doing something wrong or out of sequence. Like, when do I unplug the PS/2 mouse and start using the Optical Mouse? After reboot? before reboot?
help....im lost! hehe

You shouldn't have to unplug the PS/2 mouse to use the USB mouse. But it sounds to me that your mouse is broken. Either that, or your computer can't supply the power for it to work. I'd get a replacement.

Make sure the USB mouse is activated in the bios and that you have the USB drivers for your mobo installed properly, especially if you have a Via chipset. Uninstall your present mouse in [ system area ], shutdown using the keyboard, disconnect your ps2 mouse and connect your USB mouse. On reboot your sys should detect the new USB mouse. For your info, I ended up not using the 3.2 mouse drivers because they caused mouse disconnects after using them for awhile [ go figuer ], however the standard win 98 mouse drivers seem to do ok [ go figuer again ]. My MS Intellimouse optical now works just fine even in on-line games like Q3 and Gore. Good luck, ronach.
