MS Clear Type for XP??

I ran across the page below about turning on Clear Type in Windows XP. I did the operation and text really does look much better. Does anyone know of any negitive ramifications of enabling Clear Type. I have found no difference in my system operation but I would like to enable it on a friends machine, he has some problems reading on screen text and I don't want to screw something up. - thanks - M.

Clear Type

I'm using a 17" CRT, and the difference with ClearType ON/OFF is like night a day for me, it really smooths out the fonts, and works well on CRTs, although it was primarily designed for use if LCDs.

I love clearType on my 19" CRT. Everything looks so smooth and clean. I can't stand to use the non-clearType machines at the office anymore (not to mention the seasure-causing 60Hz refresh rate):disgust:

Absolutely. ClearType looks fantastic on both my KDS 190i and my Philips 109s (both 19"ers). From what I've read, CT is a souped-up version of the "smooth edges of screen fonts" found in other versions of windows. Apparently it is really nice anti-aliasing on the fonts. As far as negative impact on performance, while there's gotta be some, I'm sure that it is miniscule considering many are running 1GHx+ machines these days. If you want to tune your CT even more, check out ClearTweak (search on google).
