MS-6309 will not restart or reboot...must hit reset button to boot up...help

I just built computer with MS-6309 with Celeron 566 running at 850 MHZ at 1.70v. When ever I restart or do a warm reboot it will not boot. I get all green in the D-LED but it will not boot. I have to hit the reset button a couple of times for it to kick in. What's the problem? How can I fix it?

I've got a 566 @ 850 on a 6163 Pro and have a similar problem. I normally have to power off the computer to restart unless the computer is cold. I got my board and processor from Compuwiz and he assures me this is somewhat normal with this setup.

Its pretty normal to press reset half a dozen times ? Since when ?
This is an issue with the MSI 6309 which goes way back. It has been reported by overclockers.com and in the MSI newsgroup and unless i am mistaken there is an unanswered question about it somehwere in the msi bbs. And the 6309 isn't the only MSI mobo that does it, the MSI 6199VA is another one. I remember that in a similar setup i.e celeron ii it was suggested that the latest bios should be used, 1.6 ? i think. Although i don't recall if that solved the problem.

If you're using celeronII, you definitely want to use BIOS 1.5 or later. 1.5 can correctly detect the celeronII Vcore. Don't know if 1.5 or later will fix the reset problem though.

When I first booted it up I noticed I had Version 1.3 of the bios. And when I brought it up to speed it said I was running at 866MHZ. I promptly updated the bios to 1.5 but it did not fix the boot problem. I have downloaded 1.6 and I may try this. Anymore suggestions would be more then welcome.

Well I updated to 1.6 and now the PC alert doesn't work. I even reinstalled the app and it can not pick up any readings. And to top it off it still gives me the boot up problem.

This is a known problem with the 6309, at least with some boards/hardware configs. Never had it with mine, but I did have some goofy stuff related to power management.refer to 2.4 thru 2.5 of the manual, check the wiring, using jrms1 might help, or changing it in the bios, sec 3.5. I would start there, and if I couldn't find an answer, send it back. Bios revision 1.6 seems to have problems, 1.2 works for me so i'm still using it. If any one finds the answer, please post, as this comes up over and over. Send a private message for more general info about this board.

I'm also having problems with my MS-6309. If I update to bios v1.6, I find 2 main problems:
1) Memory performace with this bios has fallen down of about 50% (using for test Sandra2000).
2) Hardware monitor measuraments under both Win98 and Win2000 using PCalert 3.3.4 are wrong.

This is my system configuration:
- MS-6309
- CPU Intel Celeron II 566 Mhz.
- Dimm M.Tech 64 MB SDRAM 7 ns CAS PC133 Certified
- Matrox G400 SH 16 MB AGP
- Seagate 13,6 GB 7200 RPM 512K
- SB Live! Player 1024 PCI
- Lucent WinModem 56k V.90 PCI

I'm seriously thinking about giving away my 6309 and taking an Asus CUV4X.

Hey Luigi, If you are serious about getting rid of your 6309, send it my way. I have been running mine for about 3 months now with a PIII 600E with no problems worth mentioning. I would love to have another one to upgrade my P233 with. Is the bootup problem only with celeron II processors? I honestly have not had any such problems with mine. I am running my original bios, not sure if it is version 1.0 or 1.1.

Hi novice...! I'm having problems only with bios v1.6. So I restored bios v1.4 and then 1.5 and now the board works fine. I think I'll keep this version forever
