For many years I have had a basic stereo system mainstream Sherwood amp and Bose 301 Accoustimass or whatever the little dinky things are(yes, don't start, they never would have been my choice of speakers, but my ex wife insisted we get them, then stuck me with them in the divorce....sigh). Last night I heard a stereo system consisting of a high level Nakimichi (sp) amp and some quality home built speakers. I always thought it wouldn't make much of a difference to me as I don't have that great of hearing, but I stand much corrected, that is simply amazing! Sigh.....one more expensive hobby coming right up ;-)

I am sure my amp is making more of a difference then the speakers, but that whole building your own thing just seems way too cool :)

COnsidering the speakers you are infected with now I would say that it is as much the speakers as the amp that make a difference.

true, but it is kind of like putting a coffee can exhaust on a Kia, sure it may help a little, but still not going to work for crap. The best speakers in the world are not going to sound all that much better as long as I am powering them with a low quality amp. I would think anyway ;-)

the speakers will definitely make more difference than the amp---and , personally I think the 301's are the best sounding spekers Bose makes---they're not B&W's or KEF's but they sound better than anything else Bose makes

I may be calling them by the wrong name, I have the set that is the two really small satellite speakers with two parts that swivel and then a subwoofer. As I look more into it, it is interesting as many say the speakers are the most important part and some say the amp is, so I guess both are ;-)

I remember reading a rather favourable review of a Sherwood HT receiver a few years back in Home Theatre magazine......
