MPG caps

If they worked, gas stations would put them in their fuel at the pump.

Despite what the conspiracy theorists think, if Shell or Mobil or anyone could prove that their gasoline would give you better mileage, they'd do it. If you knew that Shell gave your car 20% better mileage, would you ever buy from BP? No, you wouldn't. And Shell would LOVE that. If there were a way to throw an additive into gasoline to improve your mileage like that, gasoline companies would put it into their fuel and they'd advertise that fact.

These pill are just like the "tornado" devices. The only thing they do is make your wallet lighter.

Well, I have a friend who is a car guy (he does know his stuff). He said his boss had him using them in white panel vans for his job (drywall). Aparently he noticed an increase in the gas mileage (went up ~20% he said) but that the engines started overheating while on "the pill." Not sure it is the same thing, just what I've heard.

I'd like to try a small amount and see if it works but if overheating is a possible
side effect of the "pill" than NFW. I live in FL and cooling systems are already
taxed by summer heat.
 
Every time gas prices go up, somebody comes out with a new 'snake-oil'. Did you check out the price of these pills? WOW! Very expensive. Has anyone calculated the price difference? Are you saving or actually spending more by purchasing these pills?

Their theory does not hold water. Modern fuel injection cars with their various sensors do a very good job of minimizing gasoline. I have not seen anything new on the market that the auto manufacturers have not thought of yet. I'm still waiting for the new Turbo Spark Plugs to come out again that will give 3 MPG and 10 horsepower. They seem to come to out of the woodwork when gas prices rise. Normally JCWhitney has them.

Bottom line: Don't waste your time on this junk. Companies can rig cars and pay for testimonials all day long that are all just a pack of lies. Remember the Tornado? Their theory was that by swirling the air and speeding it into your engine would give you better gas mileage? FALSE! Another snakeoil claim.
 
I've done some more reading about these since I started the topic and it seems they
are indeed garbage. The product was EPA registered in the early '70's as an additive
to use in engines that required leaded gas!. Then there's the MLM side of it, if they
actually worked they would not use MLM t distribute it, they would get it tested at a
reputable lab and make a mint selling through traditional retailers (ala slick50) which
also was a joke..
 
for maximum benefit you have to use it in conjunction with: a tornado air spinner thingy, an electric super charger, stick a magnet onto your fuel line, use premium gas, dump some teflon dust into your oil, pour a gallon of acetone in your fuel tank, plug a 'platinum vapor injection system' into your vacuum tree, install spark plugs with at least 4 electrodes and index them as well, and install a resistor in parallel with your MAF.

Don't forget, someone also developed a 100mpg carburetor back in the 50's or 60's, but the evil oil companies bought the patent and
put it on the shelf. 😉

Sorta like one company touting the therapeutic effectiveness of its infrared-based (IR) therapy light, which it advertises as "FDA approved" in close proximity to its therapeutic claims.

Except that the FDA never "approved" it for the treatment of any malady, condition, or symptom. The FDA did test another company's medical grade IR light device for general SAFETY, but not for effectiveness. IOW, the FDA concluded it would not kill or injure you, not that it was effective for anything. Big difference.

The FTC cracked-down on all these engine, fuel, and transmission treatment/additive companies several years ago, told them to prove their claims with science or stop making them. All of them modified the content of their advertisements to avoid making the specific claims that the FTC ordered them to prove, paid some fines and entered into consent decrees to settle FTC charges of past misconduct.

The FTC doesn't have the resources to keep on top of them all, but focuses on particular industries or markets from one year to the next. Even then it can only take-on the 'big' offenders with the highest sales, market share, advertising presence, or popularity. It will take a few years for the FTC to get back around to the engine, fuel, and transmission treatment/additive market.
 
Hahah, the local CBS or FOX station here did one of those 'deal or dud' things on a product just like those pills. They said the pills were ~99% naphthalene ( moth balls ) and uncovered some sort of pyramid style distribution scheme. They interviewed a bunch of pissed off buyers as well as some distributers who kept denying the pills weren't doing anything at all.

Wow, a whole gallon! :shocked: I just finished my first tankful using only 5oz. of acetone.
I consciously avoided babying my S10, and drove it as I normally would have.
The results are a little over 8% increase in MPG. So far, so good... I'll continue to check.
