Is it limited to the 32mb memory stick? What about that 1.8gig mini disk thing? Is that for music too? Can you burn these?

Considering the price is around that of an iPod if I can play mp3's on it too it is suddenly appealing to me.

From my understanding (I don't have one), you can only play mp3's off your memory stick.. It comes with 32mb. So you would need to buy a large memstick if you want to listen to all your mp3s.

10k songs on a 2gb? each song is .2mb?

and the reason many of us like 20+gb ipods and such is it lets us place our entire high quality music collections on the player at once. thats the whole point. having it all at your fingertips, no more aggravating media shuffling.

10k songs on an ipod...that was your argument. To each his own but I would gladly trade the abilities of the PSP for less MP3 storage.

Ouch, that is not cost efficient for mp3's. Sony pisses me off with all their proprietary memory sticks. Guess the mini iPod is still my best option. I already have a portable DVD player and a Gameboy Advance.

ok, the newegg price seems to for pro. the suggested retail price i saw for pro duo is 360bux. http://psp.ign.com/articles/589/589190p1.html
SanDisk's new 2-gigabyte version of the Memory Stick PRO Duo will retail at a suggested retail price of $359.99 for the standard and $479.99 for the Ultra II model (with actual costs and rebate returns possibly bringing those prices lower.)

i was being reasonable. using the smallest ipod for comparison. not some 60gb monster ipod which in fact holds "15000 songs".

buying the PSP for playing MP3 alone is stupid. Buy it for its all-around walkman capability. play games, listen to mp3, watch videos and photos, and probably some portable web browsing in the future, maybe even streaming audio/video

But there is essentially no point in having high quality audio on the iPod because it's audio processing=teh sux0rz.... (sucks ass). But seriously there is no point of the iPod since you can't backup data on there, onces it's there its there PERIOD. It's really stupid that apple has done this so there is no advantage to having 20Gb of music..
