Hey guys, if any of you are interested in the new MP3Pro format, RCA has put out a new encoder/ripper. It will only encode at 64Kb/sec though, so if it really does sound just as good as an MP3 as 2x the bandwidth, you should get a 128Kb MP3 file. Pick it up at http://download.ethomson.com/images/mp3ProAudioPlayer.exe, and please, tell us what you think.:)

Hmm i'll give it a shot when i get home but... sound quality of only a 128Kbps MP3? from my tests you need at least 256Kbps (LAME is best) MP3's to keep all of the audible frequencies. Even 192Kbps was dropping off around 15kHz. I usually get 256 or 320 when at all possible.

Am I the only person that can't get the damn thing to work??? I can pick my wav files and an output but the ENCODE button never becomes highlighted so I can click it.

Well I will say this, this format at 64Kb is about as good as 128Kb regular mp3s. I dont't like 128Kb but I can't wait to see what Mp3Pro can do at 128Kb. This looks promising.....

BTW I tested this with some heavy metal which mp3 are notorious for screwing up the treble on. Yes at 64Kb Mp3Pro there was some distortion but only about the same amount as 128Kb normal Mp3s. I wonder when winamp will support Mp3Pro so that you can get the benefit of Mp3Pro. I don't want to use this player just for Mp3Pro mp3s.

I am getting ready to post some samples once I finish encoding them.

Here are some samples you can listen to.......you still need to download the player because it is the only player that takes advantage of MP3Pro format.

Moderators....this is a local band that has given me permission to post their material to the public....

Post both regular mp3 and mp3 pro samples so we can compare the differences.

I hope the major portable MP3 player makers add firmware to support this format - otherwise I would not be inclined to bother, as I primarily use MP3s on my Creative Nomad II MG for working out at the gym.

I totally agree. I hope that maybe someone will be able to eventually add the support for MP3Pro to the Apex 500W :)

I doubt that will happen but I am sure that most portable players will get a firmware update to support it.
